Smoked bourbon meets coffee in this twist on the classic old fashion cocktail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1-2 tsp of brown sugar simple syrup  (½ cup of brown sugar: 1 cup of water)
  • 2 shots of quality bourbon
  • 3 tsp of coffee liquor
  • 3 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 1 peeled orange skin
  • 4 espresso or coffee whole beans
  • Large round ice sphere

Instructions

  1. To begin, make your brown sugar simple syrup. I love making this ahead of time and keeping a batch in my fridge for other recipes. Combine your brown sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
  2. Using a silicone sphere mold, freeze your ice for later.
  3. Once your ice has frozen, set your ice sphere in a glass. Add 2 shots of quality bourbon.
  4. Add in simple syrup, coffee liquor, and bitters. Stir to combine.
  5. Take your cocktail smoker. Fill your smoker using your desired choice of wood- I recommend cherry wood for this drink.
  6. Using your kitchen torch, light the cocktail smoker. Allow the smoke to encompass your drink for 2 minutes and then remove your smoker.
  7. Add the orange peel and 4 coffee beans as garnish.

Notes

If you like to have a real smoky flavor, you can allow your smoker to sit longer than 2 minutes. The longer the smoke sits, the more infused the taste will become.

Always be careful when using a kitchen torch. You should have a fire extinguisher nearby in the event of any accident.
