Raised Real Review

We are now a couple of months into feeding Walker baby food, and really working to develop a healthy, well-rounded eater.  Jack had a food allergy which led to him always being allowed to eat his own thing, and when Avé came along, it was monkey see – monkey do.  Now they are picky little eaters and I constantly worry they aren’t getting enough nutrients.  When a Raised Real review was offered to me  I was SO excited to try it, and really broaden Walker’s pallet. Be sure to use the code at the end of this post to get a discount on your order!

(product was received in exchange for review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.  Read more here).

Raised Real Review

One thing I loved off the bat about Raised Real was the fact that the food came in such an amazing cooler that can be reused and recycled.  The packaging was so impressive to me, which just makes you feel like you’re about to service your child an amazing product.

In a separate box you receive a free Beaba babycook that is all in one baby food maker.  This thing is amazing!! it steams the food, then blends it all in one little compartment.  I also love that due to the way Raised Real sends the food, you can choose to only steam, and not blend so that your baby or toddler can eat it in chunks, as well as give you the option to blend it to whatever consistency is best for the age of your baby.

What you Receive with a Raised Real Membership

20 baby ready meals curated for you every 2 weeks. If this is your first baby the fact that you don’t have to adjust your own eating will be amazing thanks to this, and if this isn’t your first baby, then I don’t have to tell you that this is SUCH a time saver as well as brain saver haha.  How many times as moms have we had the intentions of cooking a well rounded meal, only to realize we are down to cheese sticks and crackers in the house!

-Free Béaba® Babycook® Original ($99.99 value for a limited time only) – ** as an update we still use this cooker all the time.  It is so great for baby items, and for the occasional adult recipe.  The fact that it was included was amazing!

-The Baby Food Hotline– Private SMS line to text your baby food related questions.  I am super passionate about brands and companies that offer resources to get us OFF GOOGLE and allow us to talk to someone with true knowledge of the subject.  So the fact that Raised Real offers that is a huge reason my Raised Real review was so great!

Meals

-The meals and ingredients rotate frequently so your baby gets used to new tastes and gets a variety of ingredients.  Again as a little update about a year later – my son now is by far my best eater.  He has entered into toddlerhood so is definitely not as easy to please as he originally was, but over all is an amazing eater! I love that Raised Real really broadened his pallet.

-All meals are organically and locally sourced, and free of the top 8 allergens.  So allergy mamas rejoice!! As mentioned above, my oldest has an egg allergy, so allergies are always on my radar!! The fact that these are safe for kids with allergies or in homes where allergies are present is amazing.

-All meals all are plant-based (vegan and vegetarian) and flash frozen to preserve nutrients.

-Packaging is BPA free.

Gift Guide

Incredibundles Review

Buying gifts, and shopping for your kiddos, or other peoples kids can be such a busy task, so when Incredibundles Baby Gifts reached out to me to do an Incredibundles review, and check out their amazing product I jumped at the chance.  I mean whats better than a service that allows you to pick from products to create a gift, perfectly wrapped, and sends it to the person of your choice…or your own kids.

This post was sponsored but all thoughts and opinions are my own

Incredibundles Review

It took me some time to decide whether to do a pre-made bundle from the Incredibundles site, or create my own when I was ordering.  I loved that they offered pre- made bundles that were themed, so especially people without kids would have a much easier time selecting a gift, but also the fact that there was an option to select your own, won me over.  I have 3 kids different ages (duh) and genders, so 1 box with goodies for all of them was amazing!

Baby opening box by rocking horse and crib

Ultimately I went with a ball for each of my boys, a book that Jack has been reading at school, and was so excited to see, and some new bath toys for both Walker and Avé.

Baby in Incredibundles box

The box was so cute, and will be reused (baby not for sale on their site, as seen in photos haha).  Inside the wrapping was perfect, but also easy enough that even Walker could get through it, which to me was a huge win.  I hate when my kids are SO excited to open something, or receive a gift, yet they can’t open it once they try.

baby digging into box of gifts by rocking horse and crib

I will definitely be using Incredibundles to send gifts to friends afar for baby showers in the future, and be sure that you all check out my Instagram feed for a $50 credit giveaway.  I mean there has to be someone in your life that could use some sweet toys, blankets, or DIAPERS!

I hope you enjoyed this Incredibundles Review, and please let me know if you have any questions, or need help deciding on what to put in your next bundle!!

Surviving Daylight Savings with Kids

How many people reading this are parents and aware daylight savings is this weekend?  I reached out to a friend, Lauren, from Sleep and the City who is an amazing 3 times certified sleep consultant, helping parents of kids ages 0-6 get their babies and kiddos sleeping through the night and nap times too to weigh in on the best tactics for surviving daylight savings with kids.   She has 2 beautiful kids herself, and will always answer any questions you have, elaborate on this information, and help you all survive Daylight Savings with your kids happily.

two toddlers looking at baby in a crib

Ok let’s start with: The “After” Schedule

I have a good friend nearby who always “conveniently” travels for work whenever there is a minor sleep issue or time change happening in her house, and we joke that it isn’t accidental that she leaves her husband to deal with it.  Last year, same time change, she left for a 3 day work trip the night before the switch.  Hubby was happy his little angel slept in an extra hour that sunny Sunday morning, but horrified when his “easy-to-bed” daughter screamed for a full hour after lights out night after night.  Was he doing something differently than Mom?  Was she just being difficult?  Or maybe she was hungry?  This went on for three full nights, until his wife finally returned home….and everything had gone back to “normal”.  The husband was completely stumped and the wife calling his bluff- so how did this all come about to begin with?

Here’s what happened.

Every child has a night here or there where they test the waters with your authority, which is super common, don’t worry.  However, in my business I look for PATTERNS, or a sleep issue that occurs more than 2-3 nights in a row, which indicates that something is up.  Although the sweet toddler below was used to getting up at 7am (which was now 8am), Daddy tried to put her down for bed at her NORMAL bedtime of 8pm (which, YUP, was actually 7pm prior to the change, a whole hour earlier than normal).  Bingo!

 Confused?  Me too.

Here is a sample Before & After 1-Nap schedule:

CURRENT:

Wake at 7am

Nap 1pm

Bedtime at 8pm

*They will wake up an hour later on Sunday (which really isn’t an hour later but looks like it, make sense?*

AFTER DAYLIGHT SAVINGS:

Wake at 8am

Nap at 2pm

Bedtime at 9pm

So that was a great example if you’d like your babe to continue sleeping in, but now going to bed at 9pm.  This schedule may work for some, but what if you have a young baby or toddler that goes to school?  Or you have to leave for work early in the morning and can’t afford the luxury of kiddos sleeping until 8am?

Here’s where you have to ask yourself:  SLEEP IN……OR GO TO BED EARLY? (Buzzkill: You can’t have both when you have kids.)

But with the Spring Forward Daylight Savings time change, now you have the option to choose (Pop, Fizz, Clink and cheers all around!!).

If you chose Sleep In:

You’ll have to now stick to the “After” schedule religiously.  Need a new custom schedule to follow?  Click here to snag yours.

If you chose Go to Bed Early:

You’ll have to slowly work back to your “Current” or “Before” schedule by putting your child down for nap 30 minutes later, and down for bedtime 30 minutes laterfor at least 5-7 days.  If you’re using the “after” schedule to achieve this, then naptime would be 1:30pm, and 8:30pm bedtime.  After a full week, move nap back to your “before time” and bedtime back to your “before bedtime” and your child should begin waking at the normal time again.  Did that make sense?  Email me if you need two examples and I’ll take a look at your schedule for a custom approach.

If you want to be proactive and start to work on your child’s sleep schedule BEFORE Daylight Savings wreaks havoc on your life (GREAT solution if you have kids in school or have to drop them at daycare/sitter):

Simple!  Set your alarm for 30-60 minutes earlier than normal, and wake your kids up.  Lots of activity and outdoor play, or mentally stimulating indoor play at a playgym or children’s learning center.  Put your baby or toddler to down for naps 30-60 minutes earlier than normal for naps and bedtime.  Voila, day of the time change, you can sit back and relax, because your children are already adjusted.

Oh I forgot.  Did I mention it’s going to be sunny AF at 5am now also?

If you want your child to sleep past 5am, you NEED a blackout shade.  Not just those fancy Pottery Barn blackout curtains, a blackout SHADE.  The sun rises on East-facing windows, signally your child’s internal clock that it’s time to get up!  Ain’t nobody got time for waking up that early.  Here is our favorite, fool-proof window cover that works better that tin foil, and comes on & off a whole heck of a lot easier, and customized to your window size even for under $50!  Totally worth the extra zzz’s if you ask me.  Otherwise your day is about to start REALLLL early.  Buy the shades.

In the end, always be sure to use my “Sleep and the City” rules for successful sleep shaping:

  • The same sleeping environment is encouraged ( meaning one place over and over, or to start, at least one nap in the desired sleep place per day).  We LOVE the Dock-a-Tot Grand for my toddlers to achieve this no matter where we are! USE CODE 10EXIT for $10 off now! 😉
  • Swaddle (0-6 months) for nighttime and nap times as needed; we love how easy this is with the Ollie Swaddle and this link will get you 10% off 😉
  • Comfy outfits for nap time (who wants to sleep in tight pants or a dress?!)  We love pajamas from Finn & Emma, which are 100% organic and wonderful for sensitive skin.
  • White noise is continuously running; a one with low rumbling is best like our fave from Hatch Baby
  • Room is completely dark for naps & nighttime (nightlight over 2+ years ok)
  • Understand the Wake windows by age (For help on wake windows or creating a schedule, click here).
  • Pause for 1-5 minutes before rushing in, sometimes children cry out momentarily in their sleep and fall right back asleep thereafter, but not if us adults are busting into the room to save them
  • Feed upon WAKING from sleep, not before (bedtime is the exception) using the Eat, Play, Sleep approach

Simplifying Laundry Day

white washer and dryer with white laundry baskets | Simplifying Laundry Day

I went on my Instagram stories a couple of weeks ago asking for advice on how people handle laundry day, and for tips on not letting it be a constant source of stress.  I got so many amazing tips, and probably just as many people asking that I share my favorite pieces of advice.  I didn’t take one persons advice, but rather combined a few things that I loved, and really thought about what part of laundry day at our house was causing such a hold up.  For me I realized that the biggest issue wasn’t as much in getting laundry done, but sorting and putting it away.  That isn’t a step I can do while the kids are sleeping so it seemed to be why we constantly got backed up.  I decided to try a new plan I will tell you about below, and laundry has become so much less stressful in our home!

laundry room with pottery barn backpacks and white bins | Simplifying Laundry Day

Simplifying Laundry Day

Each of the kids have a laundry baskets now have a basket in their own room.  This has taught them responsibility in putting their laundry in their own spaces.  Once a week, or if the baskets are full before that, ONE persons laundry is washed, dried and put back in their basket, then immediately put away.  The smaller loads also made the drier go about twice as fast to speed things up.

Towels are done separately as well, and sheets are done in their own loads.  I know this sounds like a simple fix, but its been a complete game changer for our family.

Celebrating Walker’s Firsts with Carters

This post is post is sponsored by Carter’s; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

The first year with a pretty much a sleep deprived emotional high, where you’re constantly celebrating firsts and new milestones.  I will never forget certain firsts with all of my babies, with the moments forever frozen in my memory.  The first mama, and the first time they crawl, and walk are these emotional moments where you feel like you are witnessing a miracle.  The outfits, the setting, location, everything becomes such an important piece to that first year puzzle.  I can think back to Carter’s being such an important special brand with Jack’s first “DA-DA”, and Avé in her Carter’s Cupcake PJ’s the first time she took steps in my parents living room.

Walker’s Milestones with Carter’s

With Walker naps have been such a struggle, and the first time he took a long nap, with no battle and I walked in his room to his well rested smile, was forever one of my favorite moments with him.  His sweet little Carter’s onsie was all he was wearing, and it felt like a miracle suit.  That basic onsie is long past fitting, and Walker is growing like a weed, quickly moving past sizes much quicker than his older siblings did, so I have been so happy to have a Carter’s down the street to build his wardrobe with cute, functional, comfortable pieces for each size he needs.

Under Stairs Playhouse

FINALLY, I am getting around to blogging the update to our basement under stairs built in playhouse that got a major facelift over the past couple of months, as well as some other small updates we added to our basement.  To see the original update to the basement you can check out this post, and check out our house at move in for the ORIGINAL blue basement we moved in to.

This post contains affiliate links. read more here.

playroom with built in under stairs playhouse house and chalkboard wall

Under Stairs Built in Playhouse

When we moved in to our house there was already an existing under stairs playhouse, so I can not give you the step by step building process.  But goodness knows I have dug around in every corner, so I am going to give you my best details as the proud recipients of this fixer upper!

Making it Deeper than the Stairwell

One thing that is SO IMPORTANT to know, is that there is a “box” built into the unfinished storage room of our basement behind the playhouse to make it deeper.  This allowed it to not be confined by the depth of the stairwell.  Basically knock out the drywall in the form of a doorway, then they go trough that into the built out box in the storage room.

See the video on this post to see what I mean by this BOX.

white shingle under stairs playhouse with pink walls

Adding Cedar Shake Shingles

This was actually a super simple update, but a HUGE upgrade to the outside of the house.  I am super modern typically, but I felt like changing the shape and such was more hassle than it was worth, so I went with a fully cosmetic update.

Adding these shingles was SIMPLE, but also very time consuming.

You will start at the bottom of the playhouse and nail the shingles in one at a time. I started at the middle on each row trying to vary the widths of the pieces.  When I got to the ends I used a small hand saw and cut a shingle to make them fit.  (as a hint – use the thinner boards on the edges for easier sawing).  Starting at the bottom of the house I nailed the shingles in one row at a time.

Overlap each row by however much you prefer, and continue to the top.  There were a few small areas that were trickier for me – the outlet, and the diagonal. One thing to do before you fully encase the outlet if you have one, is to cover it in painters tape so it is ready for painting! Just get creative on the small areas.  Remember that cedar shingles allow a lot of room for error because they are not perfect!

You will go through LOTS of nails, so have them handy.  One the process was complete I decided I wanted it to be white. Do not attempt to paint this by hand.  I painted it with a paint sprayer (grab it here on Amazon)  and am so glad I did, because it was a quick process that filled the gaps and gave it a polished finish.

Lighting

We did not add any of the lighting to this playhouse ourselves.  But the playhouse has a can light inside, as well as Christmas lights hung throughout, and a light on the front of the outside. They all are run by one light switch inside the “door” at perfect height for the kids.

Overall Layout

So for those of you that don’t want to watch the video on this post (let it pop up if you’re a mobile viewer!), let me give you a walk through of sorts. You come in the front opening to room 1.  To the left is a “doorway” to a small room that is not tall at all that continues to the bottom of the stairs.  Honestly – if you are looking for an area to skip, this is the one!

Straight ahead is a small ‘bar top’ with a window into the back room.  To the side of that is a doorway to the back room that is in the “box” I talked about at the start of this post.  that is a good sized room that my kids love.

I use the front room for the play kitchen, because the kids love to pass food through the window opening, then the backroom is left open.

Framed Chalkboard Wall

The other major update I made to the basement was in adding a chalkboard wall.

This was a super simple addition.  I painted the wall I was planning to Frame with  green chalkboard paint.  I then added 2 inch boards around its that I nailed into the wall.  Mind blowing right? haha

This was VERY simple, and I planned for it to have a rustic look, and love the end product.

Over the top I painted the letters to spell ‘PLAY’ with the paint I used on the walls for a subtle fun addition to the walls.

There are more fun changes to come to the basement this year, but as for now, that is where we are at! Although we didn’t fully build the under stairs playhouse I am more than happy to send more behind the scenes photos or answer any questions you might have.

Budget Friendly Beauty Products

I am by no means what I would consider low maintenance, but I will admit fully to the fact that I don’t love to spend much on beauty products, partially due to my expensive taste elsewhere, and partially due to really preferring if I can order what I need on Prime or grab it at Target when I am there.  I have been asked a few times what my favorite products that I use daily are, so I rounded up my favorite budget friendly beauty products for you all!
