Creating an At Home Date Night with Walmart+
I have 4 kids – which means that date nights are basically crucial for survival, but also not always the easiest to come by. Between activities and the struggle to find a sitter over the years, Sam and I have really mastered creating home date nights to create time for each other no matter the circumstances of the week.
I have talked previously about how we use our Walmart+ membership for our weekly grocery orders. It has cut down on us scrambling with meals and food, and helped us gain some time and sanity back, but I also want to share about how to utilize those same great programs to create these date nights.
Setting a Plan and Ordering
We don’t do date night at home every week, but when we do, one thing we have started to do is take turns planning the date. Every other time is on the other person to plan what we will do and what we will eat. We tend to cook together or most of the time I handle more of that, but the stress of planning not always being on me is great.
We are Friday night date night people so on Wednesdays whichever person is planning the date night does a Walmart+ order online. They order all ingredients needed, as well as anything else they might want for the date night. We set the delivery almost always for Friday morning.
Some weeks that means Sam orders me bubble bath and a candle and sends me upstairs for a bath before the kids are even in bed. It makes it easier for him to be sweet and thoughtful when he isn’t scrambling in the store with all 4 kids. We have ordered puzzles and games for some date nights, and sometimes we just plan to watch a movie.

How we Handle at Home Date Nights
On at home Date nights because NORMALLY I do the cooking, we put all the kids to bed at 7 – allowing the older kids to watch a movie in bed either alone or in one bedroom. This is pretty normal for them time wise, and we don’t set the expectation with ourselves that there will be ZERO interruption haha.
Once the kids are in bed we turn off distractions like phones and laptops and try really hard to be present while I cook and during dinner. I think that is the key to getting out on a date night – you aren’t doing chores and you aren’t working and such. So we just set those parameters at home.
When dinner is done we do NO DISHES. 9/10 times they live in the sink until morning and we allow ourselves to just relax. – Again we know that if we had been on date night we would have come home to dishes in the sink from the kids, so we view it as the same thing.
