Hanging purses in my closet can be a challenge because I have a smaller closet due to living in a historic home. 

Historic homes are known for their charming features, but often lack large walk-in closets commonly found in modern houses. 

The key to maximizing storage in a smaller closet is to be intentional and utilize every available space, whether it’s the walls, doors, or floors.

With creativity and intentional planning, you can maximize the storage space in your closet and find clever ideas for hanging your purses.

Here are some general rules on how to intentionally create more storage space in your closet:

#1 Maximize Your Vertical Closet Space

First, consider using the vertical space in your closet by installing hooks or over-the-door organizers specifically designed for purses. These solutions allow you to hang your purses neatly without taking up valuable shelf or floor space. 

You can also use a tension rod across your closet to create additional hanging space.  Another option is to repurpose a garment rack or clothing rod to hang your purses. 

#2 Maximize Overlooked Space

By thinking outside the box and exploring various storage ideas, you can find practical and stylish ways to keep your purses organized and protected in your smaller closet.

Additionally, you can make use of the back of your closet door by attaching adhesive hooks or a hanging organizer designed for accessories.

Purse hangers are specialized hangers designed to hold purses. They typically have multiple hooks or loops, allowing you to hang several bags on a single hanger. Purse hangers can be hung from a closet rod or from a hook on the wall.
Sometimes purse hangers have individual hooks that can easily attach to a closet rod. They provide an easy way to keep your favorite purses in good condition and easy to find. Either of these options are excellent methods for storing your purses safely.

#2 Purse Organizers

A professional organizer would likely recommend dedicated storage solutions like purse or handbag organizers. Available at stores like The Container Store or Amazon, these purse organizers provide compartments of different sizes and shapes to accommodate your purse collection. 

Some are designed to hang on your closet rod, making good use of vertical space. 

For larger bags, handbag organizers offer a perfect solution.

#3 Shelf Dividers

If you have shelves in your closet, consider using shelf dividers to create compartments for your purses. This can keep them organized and prevent them from toppling over.
