These vintage sinks are so sought after due to their coveted materials. While you can get a replica that is similar to antique vintage style sinks, the real deal just can’t be beat.

While I live in a 1800s historic home, I can tell you that we did not keep the original antique kitchen sink in our new house.  In fact, the original kitchen sink wasn’t original to the house at all.  Had we been given the option to have an original farmhouse sink, I would have loved to have kept it to keep with the integrity of the house. Instead, I looked at what made those vintage kitchen sinks so special and trusted major department stores to give me the same aesthetic with upgraded materials.

History of Kitchen Sinks

Kitchen sinks have been around for centuries, but it wasn’t until the mid 1800s that they started to become a common fixture in households. Before then, people used early sinks like dry sinks or wooden tubs for washing dishes and other kitchen tasks.

In the early 1900s, metal kitchen sinks, like stainless steel sinks, were introduced and quickly became popular due to their durability and easy maintenance. As plumbing systems developed, so did the kitchen sink with the introduction of kitchen sink with plumbing, or wet sink, in the mid 20th century. This allowed for hot and cold running water to be easily accessed from a single tap.

Since then, kitchen sinks have come a long way with different types of materials being used such as porcelain, cast iron, and enamel. Kitchen sinks now come in all shapes and sizes which makes them more customizable than ever before.

Features Of Kitchen Sinks

Vintage farmhouse sinks have a variety of features including:

  • Single bowl: A single basin. I’m a big fan of having one large sink. This is common in many homes today.
  • Double bowl/double sink: Two basins dividing the sink down the middle. This is very much like what you’ll see in many homes today. The double basin gives you the ability to have one side for washing and the other side can store drying dishes. Or, in my case, we have been known to leave dirty dishes on one side.
  • Drop in style bowl: Different from an under-mount sink, a drop in is one that has a low rim that may be visible
  • Trough: Named after animal troughs because of their long, deep appearance. Typically feature one basin with more than one washing station or faucet
  • Drainboard: Vintage drainboard sinks have drying racks built into the side of the sink where people could leave wet dishes to dry. They also can come as a double drainboard.
  • Apron-front: Front apron sinks exposed front faces of the sink to blend it in with the rest of the space. I love this style and the apron front is what you typically imagine when you see a vintage farmhouse kitchen sink.
  • Backsplash: A built-in backsplash attached to the back of the sink to protect the walls
  • Faucet soap dish: A metal soap dish that rested on top of a sink’s faucet
  • Garbage disposal: Mounted underneath a sink to collect and grind food waste. This isn’t unlike what we have in today’s modern garbage disposals.

Where To Buy Vintage Style Kitchen Sink

With so many options available, it can be hard to know where to begin looking for a vintage style kitchen sink. Fortunately, there are several places you can look for the perfect antique or vintage kitchen sink. From antique stores and older homes to online marketplaces like eBay and Facebook Marketplace, there are plenty of options available. If you can find an old sink in good condition, you have the opportunity to make it your own.

If you want to get the same look of an original farmhouse kitchen sink and, but without the history, you can find newer versions of these classic designs in hardware stores, major kitchen design stores, or even Amazon.

They won’t be original, but the features of the vintage sink will be reinvented in new styles and materials to look like an original farmhouse sink. So no matter what your style is, you’ll be sure to find the perfect authentic look for your vintage-inspired or modern farmhouse kitchen sink for your home!

Wool vs. Synthetic Carpet: Which is Right for You?

Wool and synthetic carpets are two of the most popular types of flooring available today. Both offer a range of benefits, but there are some key differences between them that must be considered before making a purchase. Wool carpets offer more natural insulation, durability, and comfort than synthetic carpets, while synthetic carpeting tends to be more affordable and easier to clean. We’ll compare wool vs synthetic carpet and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both materials so you can make the most informed decision when it comes time to buy.

Wool vs Synthetic Carpet: Which Is Right For You?

Wool is made from the fleece of sheep, while synthetics are created from chemicals and other synthetic materials. Because of this difference, natural wool carpets generally provide a softer feel than their synthetic counterparts. Wool also has natural insulating properties that make it easier for your feet to keep warm during the winter months.

Synthetic carpet fibers are durable and can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner when needed without damaging the fiber itself or having to be replaced as often as wool rugs would need to be replaced due to washing by hand or machine. Wool fibers are more sensitive to heat and can become damaged by high temperatures. Because of this, you’ll need to take extra care when cleaning any wool carpets.

Fiber content matters when it comes to the best carpet for your home. For example, wool is a natural insulator which can make it more difficult to cool a room in the summer and warm in the winter. On the other hand, synthetics generally do not insulate so they are able to do equally well with both temperature extremes.

If you’re considering a purchase of new carpet for your home, understanding what materials are available should help you decide which one is best for your needs and budget. Wool vs synthetic carpet can really depend upon what is best for your family and lifestyle.

A Guide To Carpets

Carpets are a great way to add style and comfort to your home. They come in a variety of colors, textures, and materials. Thus, making it easy to find the perfect one for your space. This guide will provide an overview of the different types of carpets available and tips on how to choose the right one for you.

We’ll discuss everything from selecting the right material to taking care of your carpet once it’s installed. With this information, you’ll be able to make an informed decision when it comes time to purchase a carpet for your home.

Carpet Construction 101

Carpet construction is the process of constructing carpets from raw materials. It involves a variety of processes. These processes includes weaving, tufting, knotting and finishing. The process begins with selecting the right type of yarn and material for the desired look and feel. Once the yarn is selected, it is then woven into a backing fabric to form a carpet.

Next, additional components such as latex or foam are added for cushioning or extra comfort. Finally, finishes such as dyeing or printing are applied to create a unique design or pattern. Carpet construction requires skill and knowledge in order to produce quality carpets that last for years.

Types Of Carpet Construction

There are several types of carpet constructions. These include loop pile, level loop and multi-level. Each type has its own unique characteristics and benefits. It is important to understand these differences when selecting a carpet for your home.

Loop pile carpets are constructed with yarns that are formed into loops, resulting in a durable and resilient surface that is ideal for high traffic areas. Level loop carpets have yarns that are cut at even heights to create a uniform look across the entire carpet surface. Multi-level carpets combine both loop pile and level loop styles to create an interesting texture with depth and dimension.

Different types of carpets are made from different materials and constructed in different ways. As a result, you have a wide range of options to choose from. Cut pile carpets, one of the most popular types, comes in a variety of styles such as plush, textured, frieze, cable, and saxony.

Cut and loop carpets feature both cut fibers, which are tufted into a backing material, and uncut loops, resulting in interesting patterns. This type of carpet offers great durability and versatility. It is an excellent choice for any home or office space. Regardless of the carpet type, each has their own signature style helping you create the perfect atmosphere in any room.

Carpet Materials: Wool vs. Synthetic Carpet

Carpet is one of the most common floor coverings used in homes and businesses. It can be made from a variety of materials including nylon, olefin, acrylic, and wool. Each material has its own pros and cons when it comes to carpet construction. In this article, we will explore the different options when it comes to carpet construction and discuss the pros and cons of each. We will also look at some common uses of carpets so that you can make an informed decision when selecting a carpet for your home or business.

Nylon Carpet

Nylon carpet is one of the most common materials used in the construction of carpet. It is a synthetic fiber with a variety of applications in industrial and commercial settings. The material, when combined with other fibers, creates resilient, non-toxic flooring.

Furthermore, nylon carpet can stand up to high traffic without wearing down from friction or heat. Nylon carpets are durable and have low water absorption compared to wool carpets. This feature allows for quick drying time so that dirt does not become embedded into the carpet fibers.

Olefin Carpet

Olefin is one of the most popular options of carpet construction due to its durability and resistance to stains. It is made from polypropylene carpet fibers that are woven together into a strong and resilient material. Olefin carpets are also known for their ability to resist fading, making them ideal for high-traffic areas like hallways and family rooms. Understanding how olefin carpets are constructed can help you make an informed decision when selecting your new flooring.

Acrylic Carpet

Acrylic is another popular material used in carpet construction. It is strong, durable, and easy to clean, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like living rooms and hallways. Acrylic carpets are also available in a variety of colors and patterns. This allows you the opportunity to customize your space according to your personal style.

Wool Carpet

Wool is the most common choice when it comes to natural fiber carpeting. It has been popular for centuries due to its durability and resilience. Wool carpets are naturally resistant to dirt and stains, making them ideal for high-traffic areas in homes or businesses.

Wool is a natural material that offers good insulation, helping to keep your home warm in winter months. Furthermore, wool carpets come in a variety of colors and textures, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your home and decor.

Picking The Right Carpet

Carpets have been around for centuries and have been used to decorate homes, offices, and other spaces. They provide many benefits such as insulation, acoustics, and softness that make them a great choice for home decor.

Carpets also provide a safe environment for children to play on as they are kid-friendly and can be easily cleaned. Additionally, carpets can add warmth to any room which can make it more inviting. The importance of carpets is undeniable. From providing insulation from cold floors to reducing noise levels or add ing softness to any space, carpets are multi-functional.

Considerations Before Purchasing Carpet

There are several considerations to take into account before you purchase a carpet. The type of fiber, material, pile, density and pad all play a role in determining the comfort and longevity of your carpet.

Depending on your needs and budget, you may want to opt for a high or low pile with different types of carpet fibers such as nylon or wool. Additionally, selecting the right density and padding can help enhance the softness of your carpet while also providing extra cushioning for walking on it. With these considerations in mind, you can make an informed decision about which type of carpet is best for your home.

Keep in mind cleaning and care instructions. You’ll need to determine if you need a carpet that is pet-friendly and easy to maintain. Or, do you want a carpet that is more luxurious and in a low-traffic area of your home?

The type of carpet you choose will depend on the needs of your family. For example, if you have young children or pets in your home, then a kid- or pet-friendly option may be best for you. If you have a lot of people coming in and out of your home, then a carpet designed for high foot traffic areas may be preferable.

The style and aesthetic of the carpet should also be taken into consideration when making your choice. You want something that will fit in with the overall look of your home while still being practical for everyday use. With these considerations in mind, you can make an informed decision about which type of carpet is best for your home.

Wool Carpet: Natural Fibers

Wool carpets offer more natural insulation than synthetic carpets. As a result, wool carpet will keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in the summer. It is a durable fiber that resists wear and tear well over time, while synthetic fiber carpets are prone to stretching or breaking down with use. This can make wool carpet a better investment for long-term use. Wool doesn’t produce any waste when it is worn out, which makes it more eco-friendly than synthetic materials.

Wool carpets come in a variety of colors, textures, and prices. They are fabricated from animal fibers such as sheep’s wool and goat’s hair. This superior quality is what gives it its natural insulating properties. Wool carpeting is durable and holds up well to wear and tear. The natural oils found in wool fibers help muffle sounds and provides the ultimate comfort.

Wool carpets also tend not to trap as much dust or allergens as synthetic carpet does, which makes them safer for young children.

Synthetic Carpet

Synthetic carpets are becoming increasingly popular due to their numerous advantages. They are cost-effective, durable, and easy to maintain, making them an ideal choice for any home or office. Furthermore, synthetic carpets come in a variety of colors and designs that can match any decor. They also boast excellent sound insulation and fire resistance properties that make them a great choice for noise reduction and safety. Finally, synthetic carpets are hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, making them a great option for those with allergies or asthma.

Synthetic carpets are installed very similarly to other types of carpet, with the exception of not having to cut the loops. The installation varies based on the type of looping system that is used, with the most common being a continuous loop.

A continuous loop features a single piece of nylon webbing that runs across the entire room and is secured at each end by a backing board. After laying down one or both ends of the carpet, an adhesive fastens it in place to your backing boards. You can then simply loop your nylon webbing around the backing boards and secure each end in place.

While using the continuous loop system, avoid placing any fasteners on top of or near a carpet loop as this can make it difficult to properly stretch the looping system. Also, be sure not to tightly grip the nylon webbing when stretching it across a backing board. If you do, this can cause areas of tension where loops might not be evenly spaced across your room. While you likely won’t make your own carpet, knowing how their made helps you determine quality products.

History Of The Shakers

The Shaker style of bedroom furniture has its roots in the religious sect known as the Shakers. The Shakers were a Christian group that believed in simplicity and functionalism, which was reflected in their furniture design. They were particularly influential in the 19th century, when their furniture designs began to appear in homes across America.

Today, Amish artisans create two main styles of furniture – shaker and mission. Skilled Amish cabinetmakers use true craftsmanship to create furniture construction that provides a time-tested mark of quality.

The Shaker collection is characterized by its clean lines, minimal ornamentation and focus on practicality. It is often seen as a precursor to modern home design, with many of its features still used today. The popularity of this style has endured over time and it remains a popular style for bedrooms today due to its timelessness, classic appeal, and great quality furniture.

This article will explore the history of the Shakers, why they made an impact in the furniture and home decor world, and how you can use this style to create a beautiful bedroom space.

How To Create A Shaker Style Bedroom

Creating a shaker style bedroom is a great way to bring an elegant, classic design to your home. The shaker style is a design that can be adapted to fit any decorating scheme. With some simple tips and tricks, you can create a beautiful and comfortable shaker style bedroom that will last for years to come. This article will provide you with some helpful advice on how to create the perfect shaker style bedroom, from choosing the right furniture and accessories to creating the perfect color scheme.

To create a shaker style bedroom, you will need to choose furniture that has clean lines and simple functionality. With some contemporary pieces, such as a nightstand or ottoman, you can achieve a very sleek look for your bedroom.

Other pieces of furniture that work well in the shaker style are dressers and tables with drawers. These pieces help to fill out the room with storage options so you can keep all of your belongings organized. You may consider purchasing an entertainment center as it will work well with the other pieces of furniture in your room.

When choosing colors for a shaker style bedroom, you can choose neutrals such as white or black for the walls and dark colors for the furniture pieces. If you want to add some color to your bedroom, consider using blue hues in artwork and pillows. For decorating ideas that are a little more on the wild side, try mixing different shades of blue together or adding pops of pink or green in certain areas.

Use Of Solid Wood Furniture

A shaker style of furniture is a great way to add a classic look to your home. The key to achieving this style is the use of solid hardwood furniture. Solid wood furniture pieces such as beds, dressers, and bedside tables provide an elegant and sophisticated look that with great care will stand the test of time.

Some wood species the shakers commonly used in their handmade furniture were brown maple, tiger maple, rustic cherry, and oak woods including white oak and solid oak. This is because they harvested wood from their own land. Sometimes they used wood-on-wood varieties and other times they used solid mahogany construction. Additionally, using natural materials such as jute rugs and cotton bedding can help complete the look of a shaker style bedroom.

Minimalistic Design & Color Palette

Creating a shaker style bedroom is a great way to bring a touch of minimalism and classic elegance into your home. By combining the right design elements and color palette, you can create a cozy and inviting space that reflects your own personal style. With careful planning and attention to detail, you can create a shaker style bedroom that will be both stylish and comfortable.

Install Peg Rails or Chair Railing

One of the most important elements in creating this look is the installation of peg rails or chair railing. Both are used to create a decorative border around the room and can also be used as storage for items like hats, coats, and towels. Installing peg rails or chair railing will help create a unified look in your bedroom that will be sure to impress.

Clear Out Clutter

Creating a shaker style bedroom is a great way to add charm and character to your home. To make the most of this style, it’s important to clear out clutter and create a minimalistic look. This can be done by decluttering your bedroom, removing any unnecessary items and keeping only the essentials. Additionally, you can use simple furniture pieces with clean lines and neutral colors for a more cohesive look. Finally, accessorize with shaker-style accents such as wooden furniture pieces or quilts for an authentic touch.

Leave Windows Open

One of the key elements for creating this look is to leave windows open so that natural light can come in and brighten up the room. This will help create an atmosphere of calmness and serenity in the bedroom, which is essential for creating a peaceful environment.

How To Pick A Bathroom Mirror

Choosing the right bathroom mirror can be a tricky task. I’ll go over some key tips to take into consideration to help you pick out the perfect mirror for your bathroom.

Consider Your Vanity’s Size

The first thing to take into account is the width of your vanity, as this will determine the size and shape of the mirror that you need. Additionally, you should consider what kind of style you want to achieve in your bathroom as this will help you decide on the design and material of your mirror. It is important to pick a bathroom mirror based on the width of your vanity so it isn’t too big or too small for the space.

Keep In Mind Different Styles

When it comes to picking out a bathroom mirror, there are many different options to choose from. Depending on the size of your bathroom and the style you are looking for, you can pick from different types of mirrors. Mirrors range from framed, frameless, LED, vanity mirror or a mirror with a ledge or cabinet. Each type of mirror has its own advantages and disadvantages that need to be considered before making a purchase. With the right information and tips, you can easily pick out the perfect mirror for your bathroom.

Size & Shape Matter

Size is another important factor to consider. Different sizes are available for different needs and it’s important to choose the right size for your bathroom. The shape of the mirror is another important factor, as it can make a big difference in how your bathroom looks.

Mirrors come in a variety of shapes, including oval, round mirrors, rectangular, square, and ornate shapes. Depending on the size and shape of your bathroom, one type of mirror may be more suitable than another. You should also consider the style and design of your existing fixtures when selecting a bathroom mirror.

Be Intentional With Your Placement

Choosing the right bathroom mirror is an important part of creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing bathroom. The placement and location of the mirror can have a big impact on how well it functions and looks in your space.

When deciding where to place your bathroom mirror, consider the size and shape of the room, as well as any existing fixtures or furniture that may need to be taken into account. You should think about how much natural light is available in the room and whether or not you will need additional lighting around the mirror. With these considerations in mind, you can easily pick a bathroom mirror that fits perfectly with your space.

The Best DIY Bathroom Mirror Frame Ideas

Bathroom mirror frames are a great way to add a personal touch to any bathroom. Whether you want to buy completely new frames or just give your existing ones an upgrade, there are plenty of creative DIY mirror frame ideas out there. From modern and sleek designs to more traditional and rustic looks, there’s something for everyone. Read on for some bathroom mirror frame ideas that will help you find the perfect one for your space.

1. Buy Completely New

If you just don’t have the time or energy to create a DIY frame, a great option would be to buy completely new. There are so many good choices out there. It may be worth checking your local hardware store or Home Depot. If you want something more unique and have a specific vision, I’d love to help you bring that to life with some of my other recommendations below.

You may even find a new mirror frame that you like but want to adjust a little bit, with paint or other details. With all of these options, you may need to find new places in your home to put all of the new mirrors you end up buying and creating! If you want to see some of my favorite mirrors, check out my post here.

2. Update Frameless Mirror With Frames

You can update your frameless mirror with a frame. There are two main options when it comes to framing a bathroom mirror: adhesion frames and building your own. Both of these options have their own pros and cons, so it’s important to understand the differences between them before deciding on which one is best for your needs. We will discuss both adhesion frames and building your own frame in order to help you make an informed decision about which option is best for you.

Adhesion Frames

An adhesion frame is one that is already put together for you. It is ready to go. All you have to do is follow the directions to adhere it to your mirror. Because it is ready made, it may be more expensive and less customizable.

DIY Build Your Own

If you’d prefer to build your own, there are multiple options you can go with. I’ll discuss six of those.

DIY Frame Options
  1. Butted frame: Butted frames involve gluing four straight cuts of wood together to create a casing for your mirror that resembles antique crown molding.

2. Corner blocks: Corner block frames involve cutting four pieces of molded mirror framing and joining them together at the corners with four molded corner blocks.

3. Ornate: Will discuss further below, but it involves adding ornate decorations usually found on antiques to your plain mirror.

4. Mitered: Mitered frames involve joining four pieces of framing together that have been cut at 45 degree angles.

5. Mosaic tile: Mosaic tiles can add a creative design and pop of color to your mirror frame.

6. Sunburst: A sunburst frame would be around your circular mirror, framing it with ornaments in a sunburst style pattern.

This bathroom has such a beautiful mix of old and modern touches. I love the gold frame that gives it both a vintage yet contemporary feel.
Tips On Building Your Own Frame

Bathroom mirror framing should be a fun and relatively easy DIY project, but here are some tips to keep in mind as you work on your mirror.

Do a practice assembly before you wood glue or nail anything together. This will ensure your cuts are correct and your frame will be even. Sand down your wood frame and seal it to protect the pieces of wood. After all, it will be in a wet and humid environment and you wouldn’t want it to warp.

Keep caulk nearby for any touch ups you may need to make. Wood filler would also work in the same way. It is important to install one side at a time and not to rush the process. The first step should be starting with the bottom piece. The next step would be the sides of the frame. Finally, work your way to the top of the mirror frame.

3. Painting Outdated Bathroom Frames

If you’re looking to add a touch of style and elegance to your bathroom, a freshly painted bathroom mirror frame is a perfect way to do so without spending much money. It is an easy and affordable way to give your mirror frame a fresh and modern look because the only thing you need is paint. With the right color choice and some creative ideas, you can transform your bathroom into an oasis of relaxation.

Mixed metals are used in this bathroom with brass and silver.
You’ll notice the use of mixed metals in this bathroom designed by Mindy Gayer. I love the brass ornate mirror that complements the brass hardware of the vanity.

4. Use Mod Podge To Add Texture To Frame

Bathroom mirrors are an important part of any bathroom design, and it’s important to choose the right frame for your mirror. One great way to add texture and style to your bathroom mirror is by using mod podge to add texture to frames.

Mod podge can be used to decoupage the frame with paper or fabric. If glitter is your style, you can use mod podge to glitz your mirror frame too. Mod podge frames offer a unique look that can easily be incorporated into any bathroom design. With mod podge frames, you can create a stylish look in your bathroom that will last for years to come.

5. Use Resin To Add Ornate Details To Frame

Are you looking for a creative way to spruce up your bathroom mirror? Resin can be a great material to use when creating a unique and ornate framed mirror. With resin, you can easily add intricate details and designs that will take your plain mirror from ordinary to extraordinary.

Using resin to create a beautiful frame for your bathroom mirror is an easy DIY project that anyone can do. Whether you want to go for a classic look or something more modern, resin offers endless possibilities for creating a custom mirror frame. You can find my DIY tutorial that outlines the entire process in simple steps from when I did this project back in 2021 here.

6. Use Rub n Buff To Create Your Own Antique Mirror

Consider using Rub n Buff to create your own antique mirror. This is an easy project that can be completed in a few hours and will give your bathroom mirror a stunning new look. With the help of Rub n Buff, you can transform an ordinary mirror into an aged gold antique mirror that makes a huge impact. Make sure to prep the mirror frame well, rub the Rub N Buff on, and allow it to thoroughly dry before hanging it up on the wall.

Part of my struggle as a mom to four kids is keeping our home organized and free from chaos. With so many little people around, it is so easy to have small parts of toys go missing, or to have a pile up of shoes at the door. Often, I’m able to manage all of the chaos in our main living space, but when it comes to my kids’ rooms, I need back up. I’ll share with your my favorite products to keep your kids room organization in check.

Kid Room Organization

Every family has that one kid. You know the kid who tends to hoard toys, won’t throw away anything, and whose room is just perpetually always a mess? For our family, that kid is Walker.

Walker loves collecting treasures and wouldn’t dream of throwing any of them away. So I often find small piles of rocks, twigs, or even random shreds of paper sprinkled throughout his room.

I try to allow my kids to get creative, make messes, but at the same time, I like to keep a tidy home. Their rooms are where they can let that creativity shine and if they want to have piles of rocks in a corner, then I’m more than happy to shut the door so I don’t have to look at the mess.

Because I allow them to be a bit more messy in their own rooms, I also try to be extra intentional about keeping their belongings in their room organized so that their clothes and toys are easy to find. At the end of the day, when it comes to cleaning their rooms, they know where all their belongings go and can help in the cleanup process.

My Favorite Products For Kids Room Organization

The products I’m sharing with your today are all items that we use in our kids’ rooms on a daily basis and my favorite kids room organization finds. When I completed Walker’s room in our home, I was very intentional with creating a space that had ample storage space for all of his collections.

I also made sure to implements items that would help him be as independent as possible with keeping his room organized, but still allowing him to be a kid and make chaos.

Whether you have a child who struggles with keeping their room tidy or not, creating a space that has the tools they need to keep their room clean, is paramount. While Jack struggles with keeping his legos organized, Ave has an overwhelming large collection of jewelry.

Meanwhile, Goldie has about 100 stuffed animals that all need a place to rest their heads. With Walker I’d be just excited if he would make his bed at this point.

Whatever need you have, there is an organized solution to fill that void. Here are my top 19 kids room organization products that will control the chaos in your lives.

  1. Velvet Storage Ottoman– I love this ottoman! It can store a ton of toys and looks adorable in a little girls room. Plus, it doubles as extra seating.
  2. Beddys– If you haven’t tried Beddys yet, you won’t be disappointed! We have Beddys for all of our kids and I love that it zips up to help young kids (ahem Walker) make their beds easily. It comes in a ton of colors and designs. We have had these for years and the quality is excellent! Grab your own with this coupon code: ARINSOLANGE for 20% off.
  3. Vanity– No makeup obsessed little girl should live without a vanity. Ave loves to do makeup and play “Spa” with Goldie. We recently put a vanity in her room and it has made a huge difference. Not only is it a dedicated space for all of her makeup and accessories, but it also will grow with her as she ages.
  4. Jewelry Organizer – Speaking of accessories, I have this jewelry organizer in both of my girls’ rooms. It can hold up to 30 necklaces, plus has lots of space for earrings and rings.
  5. Binder For Small Items– Have I mentioned that my boys love Legos and all the million little pieces? These binders hold small items in an organized clear insert. I’ve seen it used for Pokemon cards, dress up jewelry, and even Walker’s random treasures.
  6. Stool– This stool is the perfect addition to the vanity mentioned in #3. There is tons of storage space as an added bonus.
  7. Mesh Jeans Organizer– Jeans can take up a lot of closet real-estate space. This organizer is a great alternative if you don’t have enough space to hang your jeans, but prefer to stack them instead. The mesh allows you to easily see your jeans to pick out your most loved pair.
  8. Honeycomb Organizers– Every underwear and sock drawer needs an organizer. Instead of having an absolute free for all with your underwear and socks combined together, use this organizer to keep the chaos down.
  9. Drawer Divider– If you don’t want to be quite as extreme in organizing your underwear drawer, then opt for this drawer divider instead. At the very least you can separate your socks from your underwear.
  10. Small Fabric Bins– These bins are great to hand on hand to quickly organize items in your child’s room. I used them for Goldie when she was a baby to keep all of her diaper changing kit supplies organized. Now, she has them in her dresser and closet to house different accessories.
  11. Velvet Hangers– At the bare minimum, hang up your clothes in your closet. It will create a ton more space and keeps clothes off the floor or crumpled in drawers.
  12. Roll and Stack Bags I love these bags. They are so versatile and would also travel well. You can store bulkier items like winter clothes, jackets, or comforters and stack them in a closet to save on space. The bags also are washing machine friendly, so you can throw it in with the rest of your items to reuse.
  13. Shoe Cabinet This shoe cabinet is extra thin and won’t take up too much space. You can actually fit it in a closet or smaller room. It could also act as both a show cabinet or a smaller dresser with bins. It comes with a top shelf to hang smaller items as well. This would be great in a small laundry room to keep your space organized.
  14. Acrylic Book Ledge I have had these in multiple rooms in my home over the years. We also encourage reading and the love of books in our household. This acrylic book ledge looks fantastic and holds a ton of books.
  15. Hanging Bath Organizer If you share a bathroom with kids, you’ll know that having a bathroom toy organizer is a must. No more tripping over water toys or slipping on a squirt gun.
  16. Earring HolderFor the Fashion obsessed girl in your life, this earring holder will help keep them all together. No more lost earrings.
  17. Zipper Toy Pouches This is another Walker inspired find. I can not stress to you how much I find it essential to have items that hold small obscure toys. This zipper toy pouch is great for cars, arts and crafts, or just random rock collections.
  18. Rolling Makeup Cart This is another great addition to a child’s room that will look incredible and double as a storage solution. I also love using this to organize Barbie dolls and accessories!
  19. Mesh Zipper Pouches If it is possible, this may be one of my favorite items. I hate tripping over Legos and keeping them together is always something we are fighting. The bags are perfect to keep sets together and can travel easily.

V-cap tiles are a decorative trim option to finish the perpendicular corners of your tile, those that form a ninety degree angle. They eliminate sharp edges and unfinished tile sides.

Natural Stone Trim

Natural stone tile trim can be used in a variety of applications, including shower floors and walls. It is important to choose the right type of natural stone for your project in order to ensure that it will provide a slip-resistant surface. Make sure to use stone tile or slabs and small grout joints. Additionally, you should always seal natural stone tile trim in order to protect it from water damage and staining so it can last long term.

Determine Size Of Trim

When it comes to determining the size of shower tile trim, it can be a tricky task. It is not always easy to get the correct size, and if you don’t measure correctly, the tile trim will not be flush with the wall. This is why it is important to take into account factors such as height and thickness of tile, texture and adhesive backing when measuring for trim.

Make sure to measure the height of the tile and the amount of adhesive needed. Then spread the adhesive and place the tile. If it is flush, you are using the correct size. If it isn’t flush, pick it up right away before it sets and reassess. The tile trim should be 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch deeper than the tile. With careful measurements and consideration of these factors, you can ensure that your tile trim fits perfectly in your shower space.

Bernedoodle Dog Names Perfect For Your Pooch

My family members decided on the name Penny for our sweet Bernedoodle. Between myself, my husband, and our four kids, it took us a lot of time to come up with a name we all loved. We liked Penny for our girl because it was a cute and easy name for our kids to pronounce. It sounds like a nickname even though it’s her full name. We wanted something short, so two syllables was perfect!

How Should I Pick My Bernedoodle’s Name?

Naming a dog should be fun! When picking the best Bernedoodle dog names specifically, you can pay homage to the dog’s origins. They are part Poodle and part Bernese Mountain Dog. Both of these breeds of dog are from Switzerland, so a Swiss name would be appropriate.

If that isn’t the direction you want to head in, look at your dog’s personality or appearance. Something may strike you when you see them or spend time with them getting to know their personality quirks. You can also name them after something you’re fond of – a professional sports player, television show, or food! Be creative!  When you decide on a name, be sure you love it and then stick with it so your pup doesn’t get confused.

Tip 1: Be Intentional

Picking a name for your Bernedoodle can be an exciting but daunting task. There are so many different options. Whether you’re looking for something unique, meaningful, or just plain fun, there are many considerations to take into account. It’s important to be intentional when choosing a name for your pup and to think about how it will sound when calling out to them in public.

Two-syllable names tend to be better for dogs since they can distinguish the two syllables more easily than longer names. Additionally, long names often get shortened anyway so you may want to consider this when coming up with ideas.

Tip 2: Don’t Pick A Confusing Or Offensive Name

It is important to choose a name that is not too confusing or offensive. You want to pick a name that reflects the personality of your Bernedoodle and one that you will enjoy calling out in public places such as the veterinarian’s office or the dog park. When picking out a name for your Bernedoodle, there are some helpful tips to keep in mind. Don’t pick a name that will confuse them with a command. Does it sound like no, come, sit or stay? Ro or Beaux, for example, could be confused a little bit with the word no. Consider what kind of personality your Bernedoodle has, think about the meaning behind the name you choose, and don’t forget to have fun with it!

Tip 3: Look At Their Personality

It’s important to pick a name that reflects the pup’s personality and quirks. When selecting a name for your new Bernedoodle puppy, one of the best ways is to look at their characteristics and take into consideration their unique personality. This will help you find the perfect name for your furry friend!

Tip 4: Consider Nicknames

There are many factors to consider, such as how long or short the name should be and what type of nickname you want to give it. We’ll help you figure out how to pick a unique name for your Bernedoodle by looking at some tips and tricks for finding the perfect fit. From considering nicknames to testing out a long name or opting for a shorter one, we’ll make sure you have all the information you need before deciding on the right name for your pup.

Tip 5: Stick To One Name

Stick to one name – it helps avoid confusion and makes training easier. If you adopt an older dog, consider keeping their original name as changing it can be confusing for them and frustrating for you. Think about what type of personality your Bernedoodle has and pick something that reflects that – whether it’s something creative or classic. Make sure you try it out ahead of time and that you really love it before naming your new puppy.

Finding Inspiration In Your Bernedoodle’s Name

Consider The History Of Their Breed

As you consider what to call your Bernedoodle, it’s helpful to consider the history of their breed. The Bernedoodle is a hybrid of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, both originating in Switzerland. Paying homage to their Swiss origins with a name can be a great way to honor their heritage and give them an identity that reflects where they come from.

There are many great names that draw inspiration from Swiss culture, such as “Otto” or “Minka”, or any other name that pays tribute to their origins. When picking out your Bernedoodle’s name, make sure it reflects the unique personality of your pup and if you want, honors the history of their breed!

Look To Their Personality Or Appearance

Naming your Bernedoodle is an exciting part of owning a new dog. You want to pick the best name that reflects their personality and appearance. Whether you have a tiny or large Bernedoodle, there are many great names to choose from. You can look for names that reflect their size, such as Tiny or Biggie for a small or large dog respectively. You can also look for names that reflect your Bernedoodle coat’s unique markings like Spot or Stripe. With so many options available, you’re sure to find the perfect name for your Bernedoodle!

Name Your Bernedoodle After Your Favorite Book, Celebrity, or Show

There are many sources of inspiration you can draw from when it comes to naming your Bernedoodle. From books and celebrities to television shows and movies, there are so many great options available. Whether you decide to go with a classic or unconventional option, you’re sure to find the perfect name for your puppy pal that will make them stand out from the rest!

Never Underestimate A Theme

Do you have more than one pet? Consider naming all of your pets after something you love, even if it’s a non-living thing. If you love cheese, “Brie” and “Gouda” would make adorable names for your furry friends. If you love Harry Potter, consider naming them characters from the books.

My Favorite Bernedoodle Dog Names

Let’s take a closer look at some of my favorite names for your newest family member.

Historical Names

The Bernedoodle dog breed, a hybrid dog breed that crossed a Bernese Mountain Dog parent with a Poodle parent, is only twenty years old. This dog crossbreed was first bred in 2003 by Canadian breeder Sherry Rupke. The two breeds originated in the Swiss Alps and together create a mixed breed that lives longer and with fewer medical conditions on average than a typical Bernese Mountain Dog. To pay homage to its Swiss roots, consider exploring names that are common in Switzerland.

The kitchen is an area in our home that can be absolute chaos. Feeding four tiny humans is no easy task and I’m often finding myself running around trying to prepare meals and clean up as I go to avoid total destruction.

I also have kids that range in ages from toddler to *almost* pre-teen. With these age ranges, I make an effort to make sure I have kitchen products that can assist my older kids in being as independent as possible.

#1 Folding Kitchen Scale

Folding kitchen scale in white.

Any serious baker knows a kitchen scale is essential for making sweets that come out perfectly. Most scales can be bulky and difficult to store. This compact folding kitchen scale is the perfect space-saving solution.

#2 Multi-Functional Fruit Colander Bowl

Multifunctional pink bowl for the kitchen.

We go through a ton of fruit in our household. It is one of those snacks that I have on hand and readily available for the kids to easily grab when those hunger pains hit. One of the things I struggle with is making sure the fruit is washed and then placed in a bowl for easy access. A lot of times I’ll wash the fruit and then end up forgetting to put it back out for my kids. With this multifunctional fruit colander, you can wash your fruit and promptly set this decorative bowl out for display. There is a hollow bottom that allows the water to drain to keep your fruits and veggies fresh. Plus, this stylish bowl looks great in any kitchen.

#3 Wine Opener

Black wine opener.

If you absolutely hate opening up your wine bottles and breaking off your corks, then this is a great wine opener for you. This is one of those items that I end up gifting to girlfriends and couples as a house warming present. It makes it impossible to break those corks and you have that satisfying “Pop” sound when you open your bottle. Grab a few to keep on hand for hostessing gifts now!

#4 Fruit & Veggie Cutter

Green fruit and veggie cutter.

There is a reason why this fruit and veggie cuter has been dominating on my Amazon best sellers page for the past 3 months. I absolutely hate cutting up fruit and veggies, but Goldie is still at an age where it is still considered a choking hazard for her to have certain foods whole. With this fruit and veggie cutter, I can cut my produce into uniform quarters by pressing one button. It makes my life so much easier and was the best $7 I spent.

#5 Space-Saving Multi-Tool Set

Space saving multi tool kitchen gadget.

If you have a limited amount of storage space in your kitchen or have a college student in your life, this space-saving multi-tool set is the perfect solution. The set includes a peeler, bottle opener, pizza cutter, grinder, and grater- 5 total tools in one. This would be a great starter set for a college apartment or perfect for RV camping life.

#6 Decorative Blender

Compact blender.

Does anyone else absolutely hate taking their blender out on a daily basis for those morning smoothies? Blenders are bulky and quite frankly, just ugly. I found the most beautiful blender with sleek lines, decorative glass, and a space-saving ultra slim design. As an added bonus, you can take the container to go and drink your smoothie while your in your school drop-off line. Whether you want to leave it out on display or take it on the run, this blender is a great addition to your kitchen arsenal.

automatic pot stirrer

#7 Automatic Pot Stirrer

This little tool was one of those “this is dumb” purchases my husband made that we all ended up loving. If you have ever wished you had an extra set of hands on those heavy cooking days, this automatic pot stirrer will be your best friend. Easy to clean, and a general kitchen win!

#8 Simple Egg Peeler

Simple egg peeler

Peeling hardboiled eggs doesn’t have to be a chore. Use this simple egg peeler that even your kids could use to get your egg shells off with just a few shakes. Next time you make egg salad or hardboiled eggs, try this peeler out to save you time and sanity.

#9 Adhesive Cutting Board Set

You can even snap the tool onto these containers that will store and conveniently stack all of your food prep. There are tons of sizes and different options for all your cooking needs.

#11 Magnetic Microwave Cover

magnetic microwave cover

Microwave messes are the worst. Splattered tomato sauce, spilled oatmeal, and exploding butter is not ideal, but happens when you have kids (or husbands) using the microwave to heat up leftovers. This magnetic microwave cover has been a game changer. It attaches to your microwave’s ceiling and can be pulled down to cover those messy dishes. Your kids will have no excuse not to use this cover and you’ll have a much cleaner microwave.

#12 Microwavable Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls

Stainless steel mixing set.

We love using these stainless steel mixing bowls. They come in a variety of sizes and they have lids to help with food storage. My favorite feature about these bowls are that you can actually microwave them. Instead of getting another bowl dirty, you can microwave directly into these stainless steel bowls. Anytime I can lessen the amount of dishwashing I need to do is a win in my book.

#13 Marble Drying Rack

Marble drying rack

Dish drying racks can be so ugly on your counter. Washing dishes is just apart of life, but I hate leaving the unsightly rack out on a daily basis. This dish drying rack is actually a marble stone so it looks amazing on your countertops. Not only can it dry your dishes, but it is also heat resistant and can double as a trivet.

#14 Magnetic Wooden Trivet

Magnetic wooden trivet.

Trivets are an important part of the kitchen. They protect your countertops from hot dishes that come straight from the oven or stove. I think everyone can agree that you need a trivet if you plan on entertaining a lot. I love that this wooden trivet looks great when it is on the countertop but it is also magnetic. It sticks directly to your pan so you can carry the pan and trivet over to your table in one smooth motion.

#15 Rapid Mac Cooker

Rapid mac and cheese cooker.

This one is for all the kids (and adults) who adore mac and cheese. Cook an entire box of mac and cheese in the microwave in under 5 minutes. You won’t need to boil water or take out your pasta colander anymore. Simply empty the box of mac and cheese in this cooker and you’ll have dinner in no time. When you are done, simply toss it in the dishwasher.

Bernedoodle vs. Bernese Mountain Dog

Bernedoodle dogs and Bernese Mountain Dogs are two popular breeds of dogs that are gaining a lot of attention. Bernedoodles are a mix between a Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, while the Bernese Mountain Dog is a purebred breed.

Both breed types are loyal and affectionate, but there are some major differences between them that should be considered when deciding which one is the right dog for you. Let’s go over the subtle differences and many similarities between a Bernedoodle vs. Bernese Mountain Dog.

All About Bernedoodles

A cross breed between the Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, Bernedoodles are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and loving nature. They come in different sizes, ranging from mini to standard and have a thick double coat that comes in black, white, or a variety of colors.

Bernedoodles are highly trainable and make great pets due to their friendly temperament. They love attention and need regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Common health issues include hip dysplasia, eye problems, allergies, and ear infections.

Grooming is essential for Bernedoodles as they shed throughout the year. Regular brushing will help keep Bernedoodle coats clean and prevent matting.

Bernedoodles range in many different sizes. Traditionally, Bernedoodles are larger dogs. However,  mini Bernedoodle puppies can be found at reputable breeders or rescue organizations all over the country if you’re looking for one as a pet.

Breed Information

In 2003, the Bernedoodle, a cross between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, came on the scene. Known for companionship, attention and cuddles, this breed is gaining popularity among families. Though the American Kennel Club does not currently recognize the Bernedoodle as an official breed, they are quickly becoming one of the most popular breeds in America.

Bernedoodles have high intelligence and high energy levels. It is important to keep them active for their health. They are highly trainable due to their intelligence and require plenty of mental stimulation.

Appearance

Bernese mountain dogs have black, tan and white coat colors, but Poodles can have a wider range of colors. Because of this, Bernedoodles can range in color. Often, they are tricolor, but they can also be pure black, black and white, or another color.

Bernedoodles can have curly coats like their poodle parent or straighter fur like their Bernese Mountain Dog parent. Typically, the straighter the coat, the more the dog will shed. Bernedoodles have thick coats which makes them suitable for cold weather temperatures. A curly Bernedoodle coat is highly sought after because of its hypoallergenic qualities.

There are multiple sizes of Poodles – Toy Poodles, Miniature Poodles and Standard Poodles. Bernese Mountain Dogs are bred with each size of poodle parent, though their smallest size is called tiny instead of toy. This allows for dog owners to raise Bernedoodles in different environments, including apartments. As long as they get proper exercise, smaller sizes will be happy in smaller locations.

Sizes of Different Bernedoodle Dogs:

  • Tiny Bernedoodle – 12 to 17 inches tall and 10 to 24 pounds
  • Miniature Bernedoodle – 18 to 22 inches tall and 20 to 45 pounds
  • Standard Bernedoodle – Up to 29 inches tall and up to 90 pounds

Temperament

Bernedoodles make a wonderful family pet because they are affectionate and playful. They are fond of young children and provide great companionship to them. They are intelligent and love human interaction.

They may be apprehensive or nervous around strangers, which is why it is important to socialize your Bernedoodle puppy early on and often so he or she will be comfortable around others. They will be very sweet and gentle with positive reinforcement training.

Bernedoodles love to be active, but also love to snuggle. They are happy to accompany you on hikes, swims and runs, but also enjoy lounging on the couch. They don’t like to be left alone at home. If they are too often, this could cause nervous habits like chewing or whining to appear.

Family dog Bernedoodle vs. Bernese Mountain Dog

Common Health Issues

The Bernedoodle lifespan is 12 to 18 years, much longer than its Bernese Mountain Dog counterpart. The dogs have fewer health issues than their Bernese Mountain Dog parent and are generally a more healthy breed than a purebred Bernese overall.

However, they are still predisposed to hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, ocular diseases and some allergies. Some warning signs to look out for are excessive drooling and gaining weight quickly as this could indicate a serious problem.

Skin issues such as hot spots can occur in Bernedoodles due to their thick coats. They are primarily caused by excessive licking or chewing of an area of their fur. This means it is very important to keep up with their grooming so their coat isn’t dirty or matted.

All About Bernese Mountain Dogs

Bernese Mountain Dogs are loyal, affectionate and intelligent dogs. Originating from the Swiss Alps, they are large, sturdy dogs with a thick double coat that comes in black, white and rust colors. This breed is known for their calm and gentle nature, making them great family pets. They have a shorter life expectancy of around 7 to 10 years with proper care and nutrition.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are an active breed that require regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Grooming is also important as they have a long coat that needs to be brushed at least twice per week to prevent mats and tangles. Common health concerns include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, bloat, eye problems and cancer. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with an even temperament, Bernese Mountain Dogs may be the perfect choice for you.

Breed Information

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large, strong, and loyal breed of dog that originated in the Swiss Alps. They are known for their gentle, affectionate nature and have become popular family pets. The Bernese mountain dog was originally bred as a working farm dog, but has since been recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as one of the most popular breeds in the world.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is an intelligent breed that loves to work and play with its family members and are incredibly loyal. They make great companions for people of all ages and is known for a good-natured temperament with friendly personality traits.

The history of this breed dates to hundreds of years ago when it was first found in Switzerland helping with farm work such as herding cattle and pulling carts filled with milk or cheese from farms to marketplaces. Today, they still make excellent working dogs, but are primarily kept as beloved family pets due to their loving personalities and playful behaviors.

Bernedoodle posing in white kitchen.

Appearance

Bernese Mountain Dogs can measure between 23 and 28 inches tall at the shoulder. They weigh between 70 and 115 pounds. Their fur is tricolored with a thick black coat and white and rust markings on the face. Their coats are somewhat long and soft with straight or wavy fur.

Their eyes are big and brown and Bernese puppies are often compared to stuffed animals. They have droopy ears that make them look more like miniature bears than dogs, which gives them their name in the local dialects of Swiss German – “Brummbär” which translates to “bear-dog”.

Temperament

Bernese Mountain Dogs are very trainable as they are eager to please their owners. They are smart, quick learners and very loyal dogs. They enjoy downtime by their owner’s side and don’t like to spend much time alone.

They are calm and affectionate, which makes them a great family dog. They may be shy around strangers, but with proper socialization, they will become more comfortable. They also do well with cats and other dogs when socialized young.

Bernese dogs have a history of guarding livestock on farms because they are a protective breed. Their large size and bark makes them fit to be guard dogs, though they aren’t likely to actually harm anyone.

Because of their thick coats, Bernese Mountain Dogs love to live in cold climates. They like to have space to explore freely, so a fenced in yard is a good idea for these dogs. Regular walks are important for Bernese Mountain Dogs and they would make a great companion on runs or hikes.

Common Health Issues

Unfortunately, Bernese Mountain Dogs may face a handful of health conditions throughout their lives. They are prone to elbow and hip dysplasia, as large dogs often are. They may also deal with blood disorders, eye conditions, and cancer. Gastric dilation-volvulus (GDV), which is bloating of the stomach is another thing to look out for when owning a Bernese Mountain Dog.

Bernedoodle vs. Bernese Mountain Dog Comparison

The standard Bernedoodle is a smaller dog than the purebred Bernese Mountain Dog, but still larger than most other breeds. They tend to be more active dogs than the Bernese Mountain Dog, so they need more exercise and long periods of time to play. They also require regular grooming due to their long coats.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a larger dog than the Bernedoodle and has an impressive stature. They are known for being gentle giants and tend to be calmer than other breeds like Golden Retrievers or Old English Sheepdogs. They require less exercise than the Bernedoodle but still need daily walks and playtime to stay healthy. They need regular grooming in the form of brushing and they shed a lot.

Both dogs are a great family dog, but one may be more well suited for your family depending on your family’s circumstances.

Bernedoodle playing with young boy.

A Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle mix, the Bernedoodle is a popular combination. They are an active breed that enjoys being outside and can be very energetic dogs. This breed will require more exercise than other breeds, so long walks or playtime are important for this breed’s health.

The Bernedoodle loves to bark and cuddle with its family members. They tend to be calmer than other breeds. They have a high intelligence level and require proper training and early socialization. This breed is also known for its loyalty, so it’s important to give them a job to do as they tend to be quite stubborn when they don’t have something to focus on.

Reputable Breeders

Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed of dog, created by crossing two purebred dogs – a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. This new breed has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its intelligence, loyalty, and low-shedding coat. When looking for a reputable breeder of Bernedoodles, it is important to do your research and make sure you are getting this designer dog from parent dogs that have been properly health tested.

It is also important to consider the temperament of both the Bernese parent and the Poodle parent when selecting your puppy. Reputable Bernedoodle breeders will be able to provide information about their dogs’ lineage as well as any health tests that have been done on the parents. With proper research and care, you can find the best dog for your family.

The key is to find the right balance of items that fit into your color scheme and also reflect your personal style. Additionally, it’s important to consider heights when arranging items on the shelves so that everything looks visually pleasing. Creating vignettes or groups of three is a good idea to balance the space. With a few simple touches, you can easily transform your bathroom shelves into a beautiful display.

Here are are a few helpful tips to take your bathroom shelving decor up a notch:

Add Personality

Bathroom shelving can be a great way to add personality and style to your bathroom. With the right decor options, you can create a unique look that is both stylish and functional. From rustic wood shelves to modern metal shelves, there are plenty of ways to make your bathroom look great while also being organized. Whether you’re looking for something simple or something more elaborate, there are plenty of options available when it comes to bathroom shelving decor.

Consider Color Scheme

One of the most important factors in getting the right look is choosing the right color scheme. You may prefer contrasting colors, neutral colors, or bold colors to create a cohesive look that will tie your entire bathroom together. Consider how different color schemes can help you create a unique and stylish space that will be sure to impress your guests.

Add Fresh Accents

If you want to add some fresh accents to your bathroom, shelving decor is the perfect way to do it. Plants and flowers are a great way to bring life into your bathroom, adding a touch of natural beauty. Not only do they look great, but they can also help purify the air in your bathroom and make it smell nice.

With the right selection of plants and flowers, you can create a beautiful and inviting atmosphere in your bathroom that will make it more enjoyable for everyone who uses it. If you want one less thing to worry about, skip the real plants and opt for fake instead. They still look great and won’t wilt if you forget about them.

Add A Candle For Warmth

One of the most popular bathroom shelving decor options is candles. Candles can provide warmth and ambiance to any room and are perfect for bathrooms as they provide a calming atmosphere.

 Framed Pictures

Framed pictures are perfect for adding color and personality to your bathroom shelves. Whether you choose family photos or artwork, framed pictures will add the perfect finishing touch to any bathroom decor.

Storage Solutions

Decor can also be practical. The bathroom is a great place to add functional storage. Some ideas are decorative jars, bins, baskets and trays. They can hold things from beauty products such as makeup and perfume to tissue products such as toilet paper and facial tissues.

Utilize Glass Jars

Soap and lotion don’t need to stay in their plastic bottles. Consider switching to glass for a more aesthetically pleasing touch. If you have a favorite brand, you can buy a bulk container to save money as well.

Create Different Heights

Utilize tiered stands for displaying plants, jars, and so on. Different heights of objects creates more visual interest.

Create Vignettes

Groups of three or odd numbers of objects look better to the eye. Visually, a focal point is always a great idea to have. By arranging objects in different ways, you can create a unique look that will make your bathroom stand out from the rest.

Bathroom Shelving Ideas

Now that you have an idea of the importance of bathroom shelving and my top tips, let’s take a look at some inspiration.

All White

White bathroom with herringbone tile and built in open shelves.

What I love about this all white bathroom is that they added two open shelves in the empty space above the cabinet. They go wall to wall to utilize all the open space they can. Now they have three spots for functional and aesthetically pleasing open storage. On the top shelf, they have extra towels, a wicker basket with hand towels, and a vase with a hint of greenery for a pop of color. On the bottom shelf, they have similar items, grouped into three sections. On top of the cabinet is the same thing. The white shelves make them look built in and allow the decorative elements to be the focal point.

Modern

Modern black and gold bathroom shelves with decorative items.

In this modern bathroom the shelving is small and thin. The black looks sleek and the gold brackets add a nice accent. The framed pictures and small decor items are from the same color palette. These shelves can be used in a tiny bathroom without taking up much space but add a bold statement against a white wall. This is a great way to get a cohesive look in a limited space.

Unconventional

Natural adn bright bathroom with a white bathtub, brown/pink rug, and natural bathroom vanity.

Typically, when you think of bathroom shelves, you don’t necessarily think of utilizing an entire built in ledge as a shelf. In this bathroom designed by Mindy Gayer, this homeowner’s master suite is a great example of utilizing every inch of space. This built in ledge is apart of the bathtub and houses the faucet. Instead of leaving the space blank, this ledge has functional items needed for a relaxing bath. It is completed by touches of personal decor and framed by two pictures to create a focal point for the tub.

Farmhouse

White and black bathroom with built in shelves for towels, baskets, and decorative objects.

Shelves don’t need to be overly decorated. Including baskets and jars to increase storage space is one way this small bathroom solved their storage problem. They utilized all the space available to its full potential. One of my favorite ways they styled this smaller space was with the different textures between the towels, plant, and geometric shaped item. I think a similar look could be achieved by browsing the Hobby Lobby store shelves.

Bathroom Vanity Ideas On A Budget

I’m currently renovating two of my bathrooms right now: the main floor powder room as well as the kids’ shared bathroom, and I have big plans for them. Our kids’ bathroom is a very small space so we will need to be strategic with our vanity for it to function well. While we aren’t re-purposing any of our  current materials, you can still remodel a bathroom on a budget.  Whether you want to DIY or buy new, there are many options to update your bathroom vanity. In this post, I will be sharing some simple bathroom vanity ideas on a budget.

Bathroom Vanity Ideas On A Budget

This isn’t my first rodeo when it comes to bathroom remodels.  Between our last house and our current historic home, Sam and I have done our share of bathroom remodels.  In our last house, we did simple updates to our master bathroom, kid’s bathroom, and powder bathroom.  None of the updates were major renovations, unlike our current historic home.

Due to the age of our current home, all of our bathroom updates have been major renovations.  Currently, we are in the process of creating our kids’ shared bathroom into a functional space.  Due to the small size, I’ve had to be extremely intentional in the design and storage solutions. I’ll share more of that once our renovation is complete, so stay tuned!

In our last house, however, one of my favorite updates was to our main floor powder bathroom. For under $500, I took our outdated bathroom and updated it with paint, new hardware, and a modern backsplash.  By repurposing our vanity, I was able to paint it a bright pink, and add gold hardware to have a completely new looking vanity. It was well worth the time and made the entire bathroom pop.

Sometimes, a little paint, new hardware, and hard work is all you need to create the bathroom of your dreams.

What To Know Before You Update Your Vanity

There are several things to consider before you update your bathroom vanity: spacing, plumbing, storage options, materials, and budget.

Perhaps most obvious is the space you have available for a vanity. I’ll discuss recommended vanity sizing and space to leave around it. Plumbing is another thing to consider. Where your plumbing currently is will affect what you can and can’t do with your updated vanity.

Storage options are another thing to think about before you choose the specific vanity that’s best for you. If you have a large closet, you may not need your vanity to have multiple drawers to hold everything in your bathroom. If you don’t, you may need your vanity to be able to fit a lot.

Two other things to consider are what materials to use and what your budget is. These often go hand in hand because your budget will determine which material options you can choose from. I’m going to try to give you as many budget bathroom ideas as possible next.

Pay Attention to Plumbing

If you are planning to keep your plumbing where it is, you can measure for your space by using the plumbing as the midpoint. Measure out equally on both sides. You should leave 18 inches of space between the center of the toilet and the edge of the vanity. This will give you a good idea of how wide your vanity can be.

Of course, if you are happy with the size of your current vanity, and don’t plan on moving any plumbing, you can always stay with the same size of your current vanity. Vanities typically come in standard sizes, and choosing a new vanity that is the same size as your current vanity is an easy solution.  If you plan on reusing your vanity, then you don’t even need to worry about plumbing or sizing.

On the other hand, if you end up getting a vanity that is larger or smaller, keep in mind that you may need to have your drain and p-trap reconfigured. This, I speak from experience.

Consider Your Bathroom’s Space & Size

You’ll need to keep in mind your bathroom’s space and size.  If you are going to get a new vanity, or move your vanity, spacing is a big factor.  You don’t want your vanity to overcrowd your toilet or have cabinets opening and hit walls or block pathways.

To determine the depth, you should consider the swing of any doors including the vanity, closet, shower, and bathroom door, as well as any drawers from the vanity. It is best to leave an inch or two of extra space in between all points. Vanity depths tend to be between 18 and 21 inches.

It is also important to determine the height your vanity will be. Typical heights range between 30 and 37 inches. Factor in any accessories you have including bathroom mirrors, lighting, and backsplashes that may affect the best height for your vanity.

Consider Storage Options

Because my vanity will have to be small, I want to utilize every square foot of storage space possible. I’m going to utilize the inside of the cabinet door with my favorite magnetic jars. You can also use adhesive hooks here to hang heat tools or brushes. A magnetic strip is great for holding bobby pins or nail tools.

It will be important for me to keep the vanity decluttered and organized, so I’ll be using stackable drawers under the sink and drawer organizers. Another option is using a rotating acrylic organizer on top of your vanity. This is an aesthetically pleasing storage choice for items you use often.

If you need any ideas on how to maximize your bathroom storage, check out my post here.

Materials Matter

Another good thing to consider when picking a bathroom vanity is what material you want it to be made out of. In my kids’ bathroom, for example, I will be using durable materials that they can’t destroy. An all marble top that will stain easily is not the best idea for a kids bathroom, so you may need to consider other vanity top options.

Marble can be okay in bathrooms as long as it is sealed properly.  You’ll need to keep up with the maintenance that it requires to ensure you don’t have major stains.

Personally, I love quartz for kids bathrooms. They have a similar appearance to marble, and are much more durable.  Plus, quartz isn’t porous, so it won’t absorb moisture like marble.

Determine Budget

Last, but most importantly, you have to determine the budget you are comfortable with for your bathroom renovations. This may also affect the materials you end up using because some countertop types are much more expensive than others.

I hope I can offer some affordable options that are also aesthetically pleasing.

The Top 4 Bathroom Vanity Ideas On A Budget

Next, I’m going to talk about my top four bathroom vanity ideas on a small budget. They include updating your current bathroom vanity, my favorite budget vanities, giving second hand vanities a new life, and thinking outside the box. I’ll touch on different options for every budget, personal preference, and skill level.

Update Your Current Bathroom Vanity

The vanity is often the focal point of the bathroom. Updating it can give you the perfect opportunity to refresh your space and give it a whole new look. One of the best ways to update your existing vanity is by painting its cabinets. Most things look better with a fresh coat of paint, and your vanity is no different. It is a cheap way to make a big impact on your own vanity.

Another option is to add wallpaper or contact paper to the doors. This is an option that can be easily removed if you change your mind later.

If you want to add texture and depth to your cabinets, try adding molding to the cabinet faces.

Finally, another idea to update your vanity is switching out the cabinet hardware. This often makes a huge impact from standard door knobs and pulls to something with a more custom look and style.

My Favorite Budget Vanities

Buying brand new vanity is an option as well. Maybe your vanity is not worth the hassle of trying to fix up so you’ve decided on a new bathroom vanity. Ikea and your local home improvement store like Home Depot have some affordable bathroom vanity options.

Custom vanities and Pottery Barn prices are a stretch if you’re trying to stay on a tight budget. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite budget vanities that you can find on Amazon. Check them out at the end of this post!

Give Second Hand Vanities New Life

Second hand vanities are another great alternative if you don’t mind a DIY project. They can add a unique addition to your bathroom that you can’t find anywhere else. They’re an awesome way to show your personality and save a little money as well.

Some great places I would recommend to look for old vanities or rustic vanities are Facebook Marketplace, flea markets, antique stores or repurposing other furniture items.

Think Outside The Box

Some unusual furniture pieces that would make a nice DIY vanity include a media cabinet, vintage dresser or console table. These repurposed furniture pieces would make a huge statement if you have the time and energy to do the work.

Of course you need a functional vanity, so an old dresser would need a vessel sink, new hardware and plumbing openings. If you’re comfortable with power tools, one of these options would make an impact.

Budget Ideas To Update Your Bathroom

There are other great ways to update your bathroom on a budget that doesn’t include buying a new vanity. If you need other great ideas to update your bathroom, check out my post  here

Adding a fresh coat of paint  is an affordable and easy way to switch up the look of any room in your home.  In our last house, I not only painted the bathroom, but I also updated our tile floors using paint. I created a stencil and painted the floors using the stencil design, and it made a world of difference. Check out my post here to find out how you can paint your own tile floors.

Adding new lighting, hardware, and artwork are all easy ways to bring your bathroom a fresh new look. Sometimes, you need more than aesthetically pleasing ideas to make your bathroom function.

To better serve our family’s needs, I’ve added a few smart solutions to our bathrooms.

New stackable step stools helped my younger kids better reach the sinks and access items they use everyday. Another thing I got was toothbrush holders, one for each sink, that could fit the kids’ electric toothbrushes. I also got a small shelf for a bit of extra storage over the toilet.

On our open shelving above the toilet, we have solutions that serve as both decor and functional solutions.  We have a basket that holds flushable wipes or toilet paper, a small jar that I filled with band-aids, and a small planter that can be decorative or hold cotton balls or q-tips. I also hung some hooks for the kids to hang their towels.

All of these smart solutions have made a huge impact in our day to day and cost less than $250.
