We’ve officially been in our new home in South Carolina for 2 months. While rooms are still being completed, I was able to get Jack’s preteen boy room all set for him to have a space of his own.

Jack’s Preteen Boy Room
While we have been living in our new home for the past 2 months, many rooms are still unfinished. If I’m being honest, most of the rooms in the house are still unfinished.
While we are working our way through completing our home to make it feel like ours we are trying to do it at a faster pace than our last house. Still, this house is much larger than our last house. It is important for me to have our home feel like home for our kids.
So while we are going through room by room, I want to make sure I’m putting the kids’ rooms as a priority.
First on the agenda was to create a play space for the kids where they could go to have some quiet time, play with their Legos, or create art on our DIY wall mounted easel. Once the playroom was complete, I dove head first into creating a room for Jack.
As the oldest of four siblings, Jacks sets such a great example for his younger siblings. He is patient, kind, and just the best big brother. I’m so proud of the young man he is growing into.
With all the changes, I really wanted to give Jack a space where he can go to have time away from the chaos.
Design Inspiration For Jack’s Room
Before starting on Jack’s room, I knew I wanted to incorporate a few key concepts into this preteen boy room.
First, it is so important that Jack’s room have organization. Of course I want my kids to be able to be kids in their room, but organization is key to help keep the space tidy and functional. So finding products that will help Jack keep his space organized is very important.
Not only must this preteen boy room have organization, but I also want it to have a grown up feel to it. He is no longer a baby and his room should reflect that maturity level.
As he grows older, he is more careful and conscious of taking care of his belongings. Because of his age, it is important to me that Jack gets to have items that are nicer.
One of my biggest tips it to reuse items that you have in your home when you are going to redecorate a room. With four kids, we can’t buy new furniture for every kid every time we do a room refresh.
Instead, we opt to switch furniture and decor around from room to room among our kids. Since Jack is getting older and will be getting nicer furniture, not only will this furniture grow with him, but it is a great investment for when we need to do other room refreshes for our other kids.
Preteen Boy Room- All The Details
Jack’s pre-teen boy room is such a great mix of new and repurposed items. I had so much fun creating this space.
While I try to create rooms that reflect each child’s interests and personality, I also like to keep our rooms consistent with the style throughout our home. Marrying the two can be challenging.
For Jack’s room we used the same paint color that we did in Walker’s room in our last house, Sherwin William HGTV Fresh Idea.
This blue is a great color to reflect a coastal vibe while also not being too light blue to give a baby boy appearance.
For Jack’s furniture we went ahead and got him a new set. We chose to splurge on his furniture because he is getting older and this set will grow with him as he ages.
Jack’s rug is a repeat from our last house. The rug used to be in our living room and it was the perfect size for his room. I love that it has a neutral color scheme with texture in the pattern.
The decor in Jack’s room is a mixture of decor from Walker’s vintage sports room and Jack’s last room. Again, I love reusing decor for different rooms and different kids. This was the perfect example of it working well in another room for another kid.
One of my favorite parts about this preteen boy room is that the decor is also functional. His basketballs, lacrosse sticks, and rackets can all be used and then put back in the spot.
Lastly, of course I had to add organization. Organization is always my biggest priority when it comes to helping my kids help keep their room clean and organized.
