Saint Louis Rocks and 4 kids

Amazon Best Sellers List- July 2023

Has anyone noticed how fast summer always seems to go? I swear, I blink and the next thing I know I’m gearing up for back to school season. While I love spending time with our family and getting to experience so many fun adventures with the kids, I’m also always so happy when school starts back up.

We thrive on schedules in our house, and while the school season is busy, it is also so much easier to stick to a routine. I try not to plan too many camps, outings, or vacations during summer so that my kids (and myself, really) don’t get too overwhelmed with keeping up with all the activities. At the same time, when summer begins to wrap up, I always feel pressured to fit in every last bit of fun.

So whether you are counting down the days until your crew heads back to the classroom (bless you teachers), or trying to fit in every last bit of fun, I hope you have a wonderful remaining couple of weeks with your kids!

Life Updates For July

Updates this month are mainly focused on some smaller projects we have going around the house. Once we got back from our vacation Sam and I hit the pavement to start some fun changes in the house. Even when I think we have completed one room my style evolves or our needs change. That’s the nuts and bolts of how or why a room gets a facelift.

As the school season gets closer, I reassess how our mornings flow and look at what works well and what could use improvements. If there is something that seems to be off or needs tweaking, I’m the first to suggest a change. Sam generally obliges because he knows thats a losing battle. Overall, I strive to get our family and home to flow well and fit our needs. Families and homes change, so re-assessing your needs is key to keep everything functioning well.

Project Update

While our playroom was still working well for us, I realized that my style has evolved since completing this room. I certainly didn’t need to change anything and would have been happy to keep it as is. But as is with any home project, I start to dream up a design and then I get the itch. Once I see the newly inspired room in my head, I can’t unsee it.

If you haven’t checked out my Instagram stories lately, you’ll be shocked to know that the playroom is no longer pink! That’s right! I changed my color scheme completely. After taking inventory around the house, I realized that I wanted to incorporate a bit more color in the house. I also happen to fall in love with a gorgeous blue wallpaper print. Once I saw it, I was hooked. I also loved the way it flowed with our current rug and how it complements the rest of our home. I’ll have a big reveal with all of the details of our playroom soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Over the years my style has changed. I actually had a difficult time deciding how I want our home to look. Since we have a historic home, I want to make sure that I continue to honor it’s history by incorporating a decor that is timeless. At the same time, I love to play with texture, colors, and don’t want to be confined to an antique-like box.

Fortunately, I’ve started to fall more and more in love with a grand-millennial style. Once I began incorporating pieces that fall within this genre, I can’t get enough. And so our grand-millennial playroom was born! Now that our playroom is completed, I have plans to finish our front living room as well. I have several pieces picked out but I’m still struggling with finding a wallpaper that I love. In the meantime, I’ll keep looking for ways to include grand-millennial decor in our home.

Jeep Wagoneer L with man

While the inside of our home is a constant work in progress, our backyard is a different story. I’ve shared that we will be putting in a fiberglass pool this summer. Unfortunately, we have come up against a lot of delays with the pool. None of these delays were foreseeable. I’m also by no means upset or wanting to sound ungrateful. I realize how incredibly grateful we are to be able to afford to put in a swimming pool.

My goal to share this with all of you is to hope that you remember that each project can come up against a delay. Just because you have a setback doesn’t mean your project is doomed. Just remember to keep calm, put your head down and get the work done. It will all come together in the end. Somethings are worth the wait. For now, we will be waiting a bit longer for our pool, and I can’t wait to share it with you once it is complete.

Family Updates

Towards the end of summer, my crew tends to go a bit stir crazy. Is it just me or can any other families relate? We are anxiously awaiting for the school year to be back in session. In the meantime, the kids have finished up camps for the summer and are spending their final few days exploring Saint Louis.

This past month my bigger kids were able to attend camp at The Magic House in Saint Louis. If you have never been to the Magic House, it is a very special place for kids to have fun, but also learn. At first. Avé was not too pleased to attend a chemistry inspired camp. By the end of the camp, she exclaimed it was her favorite one yet!

Little girl with dog

Jack and Walker are keeping busy with their baseball season. Fortunately, that is finishing up and I won’t need to sit outside in the 100 degree heat any longer. On days that they had games at the same time, Sam and I would divide and conquer. I love that they both enjoy sports, but I was hoping they would do something a bit more temperature controlled, like competitive swimming.

After this summer, I’m actually thinking that Goldie will be my swimmer. She recently completed a crash course in swimming with our amazing swim instructor. The class is similar to ISR swim lessons or survival lessons, but a bit more streamlined and a shorter time frame. After only a week, Goldie is swimming! It was important for me to get her up to speed with her swimming skills before our pool goes in the backyard. Fortunately, she will have some more time to practice her skills before our pool is in place.

Little girl

Overall, the kids are also excited for school to begin. We’ve gotten back into a routine to help the transition. We have started to implement school-session bedtimes, and have taken inventory in clothes, shoes, socks, underwear, and school supplies. If you are a first time Kindergarten parent, or just want some helpful tips on how to keep your house running smoothly, check out my favorite back to school hacks to keep you organized!

Our Amazon best sellers list for July is filled with back to school favorites! It’s usually around this time that I take time to get organized in both my home and car. I like to clean out the car and make sure it is ready for all of the hauling I’ll be doing between school and after-school activities.

Once I’ve gotten my car in order, I move onto my home. I’ll clean out and organize our mudroom. From there, I’ll check and restock each child’s morning bin with essentials they’ll need to make our mornings faster. Next, I’ll restock all of our arts and crafts supplies. We tend to do a lot of crafting during the warmer months, so I make it a point to get it reorganized and filled. Of course I’ll take inventory into each child’s closet and clothing situation. There is always an inevitable growth spurt that occurs, requiring new shoes. Lastly, I’ll make sure lunch supplies are in good shape and give each lunchbox a thorough cleaning.

The Best Kitchen Table Dimensions: A Guide On How To Choose

For many, the kitchen table is the heart of the home. It’s where families gather for meals and friends converge for dinner parties. With so many pivotal moments happening around it, choosing the right size dining table is crucial. In this blog post, we’ll explore the best kitchen table dimensions for various spaces and needs, providing rules of thumb to help you make the right choice.

The Best Kitchen Table Dimensions: A Guide On How To Choose

The first, and arguably most important, factor in choosing the right dining table size is understanding the space you have available. The size of your dining table should be proportionate to your dining area. Whether you’re working with a formal dining room, an eat-in kitchen, or a small dining room in a smaller home, there are ideal sizes and shapes for every situation.

Shapes & Sizes Of Dining Tables

No dining table is one size fits all. There are tons of different shapes and sizes for you to pick based on you needs. If you have a smaller home, chances are you won’t be running out to buy a large dining table that can seat 12. At the same time, if you have a large dining room, you’ll want to pick a dining table that is large enough to accommodate your family during get togethers, but also will fit in your space without looking too cramped. Whether you like round dining tables or rectangular tables, the right shape and the perfect size is out there.

DIY outdoor table has the best kitchen table dimensions for a perfect table to gather around.

Square & Round Dining Tables

For smaller spaces, such as breakfast nooks or smaller dining rooms, a round table or square tables are a great option. Round dining tables, especially those with a pedestal base, offer flexibility in seating and use less space. The lack of corners and table legs means guests are not cramped and can move freely without unusual traffic around the table. A standard dining table height of about 28 to 30 inches ensures enough clearance for dining chairs and provides a comfortable eating position.

Square dining tables, on the other hand, work best in square rooms. They provide a sense of symmetry and balance while still leaving enough room for people to move around. These tables are ideal for small families, with standard sizes typically seating four people. For larger gatherings or special occasions, consider an extendable square table that can transform into a rectangular shape for extra seats.

Rectangular Dining Tables

Rectangular tables, including rectangle tables and rectangular dining tables, are a common choice for many households. These tables offer plenty of room for serving dishes and extra cutlery, can accommodate a larger number of people, and fit well in narrow dining rooms. The standard dimensions for rectangular tables vary greatly, but a common size is 36 inches wide and 72 inches long. These tables often pair well with a bench on one side of the table for a more casual feel.

Oval Dining Tables

Oval tables, including oval dining tables, offer a softer edge compared to rectangular tables, making them a great fit for both small and large spaces. Like round tables, oval tables lack sharp corners, providing more flexibility and safety in homes with young children or in smaller homes with limited available space.

Counter Height Tables

Counter height tables and bar height tables are also viable options, particularly for casual dining or in kitchen spaces. Standard height for counter tables is about 36 inches, while bar-height tables stand around 40 to 42 inches tall.

These types of tables are often paired with matching high chairs or bar stools and might be a perfect solution for less formal or smaller spaces, such as breakfast nooks or eat-in kitchens. It’s important to remember, though, that these options might not be suitable for everyone, especially young children or older adults who might find it difficult to climb onto taller seats.

Long rectangular dining table

Spacing Around Your Table

When choosing your new table, remember to consider not just the table top, but also the space around it. The dining space should have enough room for people to move comfortably, without bumping into the table or each other. A good rule of thumb is to allow at least 36 inches of space from the edge of the table to the wall or other pieces of furniture, providing enough clearance for chairs and for people to move around.

Importance Of Your Table’s Dimensions

The width of the table is also crucial. A minimum depth of 24 inches per place setting ensures that there’s enough space for plates, utensils, and glasses without them feeling cramped. For rectangular and oval tables, consider a table width of at least 36 inches to leave room for food in the center of the table and to make reaching for dishes easier.

The size of your table also affects the overall feel of your dining area. A large table can make a small room feel cramped, while a small table in a large room can make the space feel bare and uninviting. The key is to find a balance. For instance, a round dining table can make a small dining room feel larger by improving the flow of the room. Conversely, a large rectangular dining table in a formal dining room can make the space more inviting and suitable for large gatherings.

This rectangular kitchen table dimensions has plenty of seating to offer in this Farmhouse dining room.

Be Aware Of Spacing Between Guests

Remember that the number of people you plan to seat regularly is a major consideration. As a rule of thumb, each person should have about 24 to 30 inches of space at the dining room table. This provides enough room for each guest to eat comfortably without bumping elbows.

For those who often host dinner parties or large family gatherings, consider a table with extendable leaves. This allows you to adapt your table size based on the number of guests, ensuring you have enough space for everyone without making your table take up too much room when it’s not in use.

Lastly, don’t forget about the ends and sides of the table. Allow at least 36 inches between the end of the table and the nearest wall or piece of furniture to ensure guests can comfortably take their seats. On the sides of the table, aim for at least 24 inches of space, so chairs can be pushed back without hitting the wall or other furniture.

Quick Tips to Determine the Best Kitchen Table Dimensions for Your Space

To help you pick the best kitchen table for your needs and space, make sure to follow the steps below. By doing so, you can create a dining space that is both practical and visually appealing.

Measure Your Available Space

Start by measuring the area in your kitchen where you plan to place the table. Consider both the length and width of the space, as well as any surrounding furniture, cabinets, or walkways. Be sure to leave enough room for chairs to comfortably pull out and for people to move around the table without feeling cramped.

Determine the Shape of the Table

Kitchen tables come in various shapes, including rectangular, square, round, and oval. The shape you choose will depend on your personal preference and the available space. Rectangular tables are popular and versatile, while round tables are great for smaller spaces and encourage conversation.

Consider the Number of Seats Needed

Think about how many people you typically accommodate at your dining table. If you frequently entertain guests or have a large family, you’ll need a table that can accommodate more chairs. As a general rule, allow about 24 inches of width per person, but keep in mind that larger chairs or armrests may require more space.

Leave Enough Clearance

To ensure comfort and easy movement, make sure to leave sufficient clearance around the table. Aim for a minimum of 36 inches of space between the table and any walls, furniture, or other obstacles. If your kitchen allows for more space, that’s even better.

Consider Table Height

Standard kitchen tables are typically around 30 inches tall, but you can find tables of varying heights. Consider the height of your chairs or stools and make sure they provide enough legroom for comfortable seating. Allow a clearance of 10 to 12 inches between the seat of the chair and the tabletop.

Test the Size Practically

If possible, create a mock-up of the table using table or cardboard boxes on the floor. This will give you a visual representation of how the table will fit in your kitchen and help you assess if it’s the right size for your needs.

Think About Table Extensions

If you occasionally need extra seating for special occasions, you may want to consider a table with extension leaves. These allow you to expand the table surface when needed and reduce it for everyday use.

Consider the Overall Style

Finally, consider the style and design of your kitchen and choose a table that complements the existing decor. Pay attention to the material, finish, and color of the table to ensure it fits seamlessly into your kitchen’s aesthetic.

A concrete patio is a fantastic addition to any home’s outdoor living space. It provides a durable, low-maintenance surface for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the outdoors. However, the concrete patio cost can be prohibitive for some homeowners. The good news is that it is possible to create a beautiful, functional concrete patio on a budget. In this post, we’ll explore some creative ideas for designing a concrete patio that is both affordable and attractive.

12 Modern Concrete Patio Ideas On A Budget

If you have some construction experience or are willing to learn, building your concrete patio can be an excellent way to save money. To pour concrete slabs is a relatively simple process that can be completed with basic tools and materials.

However, it is important to ensure that you have the necessary knowledge and skills to complete the patio project safely and effectively. DIY patios can be customized to fit the exact dimensions and style of your outdoor space. As a bonus, you can also choose to add decorative elements like stamped patterns or color.

I have spent a lot of time on the interior of my home, and as the rooms get completed, Sam and I are switching our focus to the outdoor area. I am looking forward to having a space around the pool to utilize for outdoor lounging and a spot to have dinner with family and friends on summer nights.

At the same time as the pool is being completed, we have laid a concrete floor in our barn and plan to renovate it in the upcoming months or year. These projects will take a while to complete now, but in the long run, they’ll be so worth it!

Determine Your Starting Point With Your Concrete Patio

Before diving into the world of modern concrete patio ideas, it’s essential to establish your starting point. Take a good look at your backyard space and consider the size, shape, and location of your existing concrete slab or concrete paver patio.

Determine if you want to keep your current concrete the way it is or if it needs some extra love. You can power wash the concrete to determine its condition. Then decide if you want to keep, replace, or rehab the patio. Maybe power washing is enough, or you can use pavers to replace it. If the concrete isn’t looking the best, but it isn’t in the budget to replace it, you can cover your concrete patio with outdoor rugs, interlocking deck tiles, or outdoor patio tiles.

If you’re starting from scratch, determine the best area for your new patio space, keeping in mind factors such as sun exposure, drainage, and proximity to your back door. This will be a big project, but there are ways to make it DIY-friendly. If you have a grassy area and want to have your backyard more decorative, you can use concrete pavers as a design and landscaping tool.

Establish Your Aesthetic & Purpose

Next, consider the overall look and feel you want to achieve with your modern concrete patio. Are you aiming for a cozy, intimate setting for family gatherings, or do you prefer a sleek, minimalist space for entertaining guests? Your concrete patio’s aesthetic will also inform its purpose, be it a dining area, an outdoor living room, or a play area for children.

Establishing your aesthetic and purpose is crucial for creating a cohesive and functional outdoor space. Your patio’s aesthetic should reflect your personal style and preferences, while its purpose should align with how you intend to use the space. Here are some tips on how you can achieve this

Outdoor table that is an easy DIY for modern concrete patio ideas on a budget.

Determine Your Purpose

Start by asking yourself how you plan to use your patio. Is it primarily for relaxation, dining, entertaining, or a combination of these? Identifying your patio’s main purpose will help you make design choices that support its intended function.

Choose A Style

Your aesthetic should be a reflection of your taste and personality. Consider whether you prefer a modern, minimalist look, a rustic, natural vibe, or a colorful, eclectic design. Once you’ve identified your preferred style, look for inspiration online, in magazines, or by visiting local outdoor spaces to gather ideas.

Set A Budget

Establishing a budget is essential when planning your patio design. Knowing how much you can spend will help you determine which materials and features you can afford and which ones you may need to modify or eliminate to stay within budget.

Add Your Decor & Accessories

The best part about modern concrete patios is that there are countless affordable ways to personalize your outdoor space. Here are some budget-friendly ideas to help you add style and function to your concrete patio:

1. Concrete Pavers

Transform your plain concrete slab by adding visual interest with concrete pavers. Available in various shapes, sizes, and colors, concrete pavers can be arranged in numerous patterns to create a unique and eye-catching patio floor. A gravel base is necessary for installing pavers, and with careful planning and the right tools, this can be a great DIY project. You can also make stone paths with pavers between your backyard patio and other features in your yard.

2. Outdoor Rugs

Breathe new life into your concrete patio floors by adding outdoor rugs. Outdoor rugs come in various colors, patterns, and materials, making it easy to find the perfect match for your personal style. They also provide a cozy touch underfoot and help define seating areas.

3. Patio Furniture

Invest in durable and stylish patio furniture that suits your needs and complements the aesthetic of your outdoor space. From built-in benches to sleek dining sets, there are plenty of budget-friendly and dual-purpose options to choose from. Look for budget-friendly ways to furnish your space, like repurposing old furniture, shopping at thrift stores, or even building your own pieces. An open fire pit is a great addition to a patio that will be used for entertaining and lounging.

4. Lighting

Illuminate your patio area with string lights for a warm and inviting atmosphere. These versatile outdoor lights are an easy way to make your concrete patio feel cozy and inviting after the sun goes down. Lanterns or LED candles can also create a warm and inviting atmosphere without breaking the bank.

5. Outdoor Structures

Add an outdoor structure such as a pergola or patio cover to provide shade and protection from the elements. While some structures can be pricey, there are inexpensive options made from less expensive materials that still offer style and function.

6.  Privacy Fence

Create a sense of seclusion and intimacy by adding a privacy fence or decorative screen around your patio area.

7. Outdoor Kitchen

If you love cooking and entertaining outdoors, consider adding a budget-friendly outdoor kitchen to your patio space. A simple setup with a grill, counter space, and storage can go a long way in enhancing your outdoor living experience. If you’re a big cook, adding a pizza oven or smoker would really step it up a notch.

8. Flower Beds and Vertical Gardens

Bring life and color to your concrete patio with garden beds and vertical gardens. These space-saving gardening solutions are perfect for small patios and can be easily customized to suit your style and preferences, while adding visual interest, defining the space, and making it feel more intimate.

This can include hanging planters, trellises, or even a living wall. Choose from a variety of plants, pots, and planters to create a lush, vibrant outdoor space. Vertical gardening is a great option for adding greenery without taking up precious square footage on your concrete patio.

9. Water Feature

Incorporate a water feature, such as a small fountain or pond, to create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. You don’t need to spend a fortune on a custom-built water feature; there are plenty of DIY projects and affordable options available.

10. Decorative Concrete Stains and Stamp Patterns

Give your concrete patio a fresh look with concrete stains or stamp patterns. These decorative options can mimic the appearance of natural stone, brick, or wood and can be applied by a professional or as a DIY project with the right tools and materials. The various patterns you can design are endless!

Four kids on a beach

Amazon Best Sellers List- June 2023

Summer has been in full swing in our house! Between camps, sports, and pool time, our crew has been enjoying the sunshine that June has had to offer. If you’re new around here, we live in the Midwest in a community within Saint Louis, MO. Usually, summers can be so uncomfortably hot. This year, it feels more manageable, but I’m wondering if I’m just getting better products to keep us more comfortable on those hot days.

Wherever you live, I hope you have had the chance to enjoy your first official month of summer break! Before we know it, it will be August and our crew will be heading back to school. In the meantime, we are making lots of memories to last us all summer long!

Mom and 2 sons

Life Updates For June

Let’s be honest, this monthly update isn’t going to be too terribly exciting. In the summertime we try to relax, enjoy the time off of school, and make lots of fun memories. While we have lots of work going on behind the scenes, our June was spent enjoying the Florida panhandle together as a family!

Project Updates

Before we set off for Florida, Sam and I finished up some loose ends on a few projects we had going on at the house. One of those projects is Avé’s room. It has come such a long way and we are officially done! I love the way the space turned out and so does Avé. Sam spent a lot of time and energy creating a window seat of her dreams. Okay, really it is the window seat of my dreams.

With a home that was built in the 1800s, creating this window seat was no easy task. Once it was built, I got to work on the finishing touches with upholstering the cushions and picking out the perfect textiles to complement the decor. Overall, the room is a mix of timeless, yet delicate details.

Little girl room with bunk bed and pink walls

Goldie’s room is next on my to-do list! I know I better pull out all the stops! Goldie has been such a good sport since we have moved into our home. While it has been a few years since we have gotten settled, we still haven’t completed a room for Goldie. She has her original nursery inspiration from our last house, but I know she is ready for an upgrade.

Since I change up decor so often, I usually find a way to repurpose items. For example, Avé got a new bed for her room. Goldie will likely get Avé’s old bed for her new room. We try to keep costs down as much as possible when redecorating a room, so it makes sense for us to have the flexibility to switch out certain pieces.

For now, Goldie is really enjoying the time she gets to spend in her big sister’s new room. Bunk beds have been a hit for the girls and I love watching their sweet bond grow. Hopefully, I’ll have an update on Goldie’s room soon. In the meantime, I better start designing!

Family Updates

June was filled with travel for our family! We took a very much needed vacation with our crew to Florida. Sam and I were married and lived in Destin, FL briefly when we were younger. We love the area and the beach is one of our family’s favorite spots. We try to go back to the area at least once or twice a year.

This year, we went to 30A, outside of Destin. If you have never been to 30A, it has a bit more of a family vibe in comparison to Panama City Beach or Destin. There are lots of small tons with cute shops, amazing restaurants, and still beautiful beaches.

If you have ever wondered how we pack our family of six up for a cross-country road trip, be sure to check out my Instagram post. Overall, we have to be very intentional with what we bring. Everything must have a purpose, a place, and be worth hauling across several states. I have several products that I have found make traveling with kids and traveling in general much easier!

Four kids playing in the waves at the beach

For our trip this year we actually split our time up in 2 separate homes. We started off with an amazing property in Watercolor Beach. Not only was it a perfect location, but the house itself is also pink! You know I was going to love it as soon as we pulled up!

If you aren’t familiar with 30A, Watercolor is a community near Seaside. Our house came with access to the private beach club, plus had a smaller pool in the backyard. Overall, the location for this house couldn’t be beat! We were just steps away from all of the best shops, restaurants, and the beach!

Little Girl at beach

In the middle of our vacation, I flew out to San Antonio, Texas for a promotion with Amazon in anticipation of Amazon Prime Day! Of course I missed having that family time for the two days I was gone, but I had so much fun seeing all that Amazon has in store for us on Prime Day!

When I got back from Texas, we packed up the kids and our belongings and switched houses. We have always wanted to have a house directly on the beach. For the last half of our vacation we were able to find a home that was available and directly on the beach!

The house was located in Seagrove Beach, another smaller beach community along 30A. The house overall was amazing, but on the smaller side for our family. We loved the outdoor space and really enjoyed direct beach access.

At the end of our two weeks it was time to return home and get back to reality! Overall, we had an incredible time making tons of memories, eating great food, and enjoying our beautiful surroundings.

Everyday Table Centerpiece Ideas For Simple Decor

A beautiful centerpiece can transform the look of your dining space, turning an ordinary room into a stylish and inviting area. But when it comes to everyday dining table decor, many people struggle to strike the right balance between style and practicality. In this blog post, we’ll explore some simple everyday table centerpiece ideas that can elevate your dining area without breaking the bank or requiring a lot of maintenance.

Everyday Table Centerpiece Ideas For Simple Decor

An everyday centerpiece should be more than just a decorative piece; it should also enhance the atmosphere of your dining area, making it a welcoming and comfortable space for you and your guests. Ideally, your centerpiece should be easy to maintain and not obstruct conversation or dining. With this in mind, simple and versatile centerpieces are often the best choice for everyday use.

To ensure your everyday centerpiece remains simple and versatile, keep these tips in mind:

#1 Less Is More

Don’t overcrowd your table with too many decorative items. Instead, choose a few key pieces that make a statement and allow for easy conversation and dining.

#2 Easy To Maintain

Select items that are low-maintenance and easy to clean. For example, opt for faux flowers instead of real ones that require constant care, or choose candles that are dripless and unscented.

#3 Flexible

Your centerpiece should be adaptable to various situations, such as casual dinners, family gatherings, or dinner parties. Choose items that can be easily rearranged, swapped out, or added to when needed.

#4 Scale & Proportion

Be mindful of the size and scale of your centerpiece in relation to your table. A centerpiece that is too large can feel overwhelming and obstructive, while one that is too small may not make a sufficient impact.

By focusing on simplicity, versatility, and items that enhance the atmosphere of your dining area, you’ll be able to create everyday table centerpiece ideas that are both beautiful and practical.

Remember, the goal is to strike the perfect balance between form and function to ensure your dining table is a welcoming and comfortable space for you and your guests to gather and enjoy.

How To Design A Table Centerpiece For Everyday Decor

Consider Length & Shape Of Your Table

Before diving into the world of tabletop decor, one of the first things to consider is the shape of your table. A long table will require a different approach than a round table, as the right centerpiece will need to complement the table’s shape and size. A good rule of thumb is to choose a centerpiece that doesn’t extend beyond the middle of the table, leaving space for people to comfortably dine and converse.

As a general rule, the centerpiece should occupy no more than one-third of the table’s width. This ensures that it doesn’t interfere with conversation or dining and leaves enough space for other table settings.

By considering the length and shape of your table when designing an everyday centerpiece, you’ll be able to create a visually appealing and practical display that enhances the overall atmosphere of your dining area while ensuring the comfort of your guests.

Everyday table centerpiece ideas can also be themed for various holidays with this Valentine's day table runner.

Pick A Theme Or Aesthetic

Having a theme or aesthetic in mind is a great way to ensure a cohesive look for your dining space. This could be anything from a specific color scheme to a style like rustic, modern, or farmhouse. When choosing decorative items for your centerpiece, make sure they align with your chosen theme and complement the decor in the rest of your dining area.

Consider the overall style of your home decor. The centerpiece should complement and enhance the existing style and not clash with it. Consider the occasion or season for which you are creating the centerpiece. Think about your personal style and preferences. Consider the colors that you want to incorporate into your centerpiece. Finally, consider the materials that you want to use for your centerpiece.

Personally, I love having a few key staples for my table decor. From there, I can add in additional decorative objects for the occasion. For example, holidays will have that specific theme, but I’ll still have my core decorative staples to tie it all together.

Pay Attention To Lighting

Lighting plays a significant role in the overall ambiance of your dining space. A simple centerpiece, like a row of candle holders or a single large plant, can look stunning when placed in the center of your table and illuminated by overhead lighting. For a more dramatic effect, consider incorporating string lights or LED candles into your centerpiece display.

If your dining area receives a lot of natural light, consider using a centerpiece that allows the light to shine through. If your dining area does not receive much natural light, consider incorporating artificial lighting into your centerpiece. Lowering dimmer switches can create a cozy, intimate atmosphere. If your dining area has a chandelier or other overhead lighting, make sure that your centerpiece does not obstruct the view or cast shadows on the table.

Play With Shapes, Height, & Texture

Experimenting with different shapes, heights, and textures is a great way to add visual interest to your dining room table centerpieces. However, avoid using items that are too tall, as they can obstruct views and conversation across the table. For instance, you could use a mixture of tall candlesticks, short decorative bowls, and medium-sized ginger jars to create a multi-layered display. Likewise, playing with different materials like glass, wood, and metal can add depth to your arrangement.

I love using candlesticks for height or using an elevated tray to bring smaller objects up higher. As far as texture goes, I love playing around with faux florals and greenery. Dried pampas are a great tool to use to add texture and look amazing in fall decor.

Don’t Forget Fresh Elements

Incorporating fresh elements like flowers or fruit is an easy way to breathe life into your table decor. Fresh flowers can be as simple as a small vase with a few natural blooms, or as elaborate as a full-scale floral arrangement. Personally, I prefer to utilize fresh flowers only for special occasions. As far as everyday table centerpiece ideas, I generally stick with faux or dried florals. But, that is mainly because of the season I am in with my kids. I don’t have the time or energy to change out florals every few days. If you prefer the look of fresh florals, you do you!

Fruit bowls also make great options, as they add a pop of color and can easily be refreshed when needed. This is perfect for our family because my kids are always looking for a snack. When I have fruit out, they tend to want to snack on that more because it is widely available.

If you live near the beach or have a coastal decor theme, consider incorporating seashells into your centerpiece. Arrange them in a decorative bowl or scatter them around your centerpiece for a natural, beautiful feel.

Keep It Simple

For everyday use, it’s best to keep your centerpiece simple and low-maintenance. While elaborate floral arrangements and towering displays may be perfect for special occasions, they can be cumbersome for daily use. Instead, opt for items that are easy to clean and maintain, like a dough bowl filled with faux flowers or a tiered tray displaying decorative items.

Everyday Table Centerpiece Ideas Examples

The size and shape of your table will help determine the centerpiece look you can achieve. These are some of my favorite everyday table centerpiece ideas based on table shape and sizes.

Round Tables

When it comes to round dining room centerpieces, a single large centerpiece or a series of smaller items arranged in a circle can work well. A large decorative bowl filled with fruit, a potted plant, or a simple floral arrangement can take center stage. Alternatively, a group of smaller decorative items like mason jars, air plants, or candle holders can be arranged in a circular pattern to create a visually appealing display.

You know I love lazy Susans for their practicality and organizational features. You can utilize your own lazy Susan to help achieve a decorative look, but also make it easy for passing items at the dinner table.

A round table with tray and florals for everyday table centerpiece ideas.

Long Tables

For long tables, a table runner can serve as the foundation for your centerpiece. Layer your decorative items along the length of the runner, ensuring they don’t extend beyond the middle of the table. You can use a combination of different heights and textures, like tall candlesticks, small vases with fresh flowers, and decorative bowls filled with fruit or ornaments.

Kitchen Islands

Kitchen table centerpieces should be both functional and stylish. A great example of this is a tiered tray filled with frequently used items like salt and pepper shakers, a sugar bowl, and a small vase with fresh flowers. This allows you to keep essential items within reach while also adding a decorative touch to your kitchen space.

If you’ve seen my Instagram, you’ll note that I have an entire coffee station dedicated to our supplies. I use a tray to help store our syrups and other supplies we use to make coffees. It not only looks nice, but is super functional.

The center of my kitchen island typically has a large bowl with lots of fruit. It adds a fresh element, a pop of color, and is just plain practical!

Coffee Tables

Coffee table centerpieces can be more casual and relaxed than formal dining room centerpieces. A decorative tray filled with a mix of items like books, candles, and small plants is a good option. You can also use a clear glass jar filled with colorful stones or shells for a pop of color and an interesting focal point.

Because one of our living spaces is in the same room as our kitchen and dining room, our coffee table is an extension of that space. I try to make sure all of the elements flow together and offer a cohesive look.

DIY Centerpieces

For those who enjoy getting creative, DIY centerpieces are a great way to personalize your dining space. Some ideas include painting mason jars in bright colors and filling them with real or faux flowers, creating a display of air plants in small decorative bowls or pots, or even repurposing old wine bottles as candle holders. The best part about DIY centerpieces is that you can tailor them to fit your specific theme or aesthetic.

Everyday table centerpiece ideas can also apply to coffee table with this faux plant, candle ,and decorative beads.

Keep in mind that the best everyday table centerpiece ideas often has a few things in common: they’re the right size for the table, they incorporate different styles and textures, and they suit the overall theme of the dining area. Additionally, remember that sometimes less is more – a simple centerpiece can often be just as beautiful and impactful as a more elaborate one.

History of Ice Cream

Ice cream has been around for centuries, with the earliest known recipe dating back to the 4th century B.C. in Persia. It was a popular treat among the wealthy and was made by mixing snow or ice with fresh fruit and honey. As ice cream spread throughout the world, new ingredients and techniques were added to create the many flavors we know and love today.

In the 17th century, ice cream started to become popular in Europe, and it was in this time period that the first ice cream machine was invented. The machine used a hand-cranked churn to freeze the ice cream mixture, which greatly reduced the time and effort required to make ice cream.

In the 19th century, the ice cream industry exploded thanks to the invention of new technologies like refrigeration and the continuous freezer. This made it possible to produce ice cream on a large scale and store it for longer periods of time.

Today, ice cream is a beloved treat enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. And with the help of an ice cream maker, it’s easier than ever to make your own delicious flavors at home.

Types of Ice Cream Machines

There are several types of ice cream makers available on the market, each with its own unique features and benefits. Here are the most common types:

1. Manual Ice Cream Makers

These ice cream makers require manual labor to make ice cream. They typically consist of a churn that is filled with ice cream mixture and then manually turned by hand. These manual machines are the most affordable and are great for small batches of ice cream.

2. Electric Ice Cream Makers

Electric ice cream makers are powered by electricity and use a heavy-duty motor to churn the ice cream mixture. They are faster than manual ice cream makers and require less effort to use. They are also great for larger batches of ice cream.

3. Compressor Ice Cream Makers

Compressor-style ice cream makers are the most expensive type of ice cream maker but also the most convenient. They have their own built-in freezing system, so there’s no need to pre-freeze the bowl or add ice and salt. These machines are great for making large batches of ice cream quickly.

What To Look For When Choosing The Best Kids Ice Cream Maker

When it comes to choosing the best ice cream maker for kids, there are a variety of factors to consider. From the size of the machine to the type of freezing method, there are a lot of options available on the market. Here, we’ll dive into what to look for when choosing the best kids ice cream maker.

Size of Machine

One of the first things to consider when choosing an ice cream maker for kids is the size of the machine. If you have a large family, like I do, or want to make big batches of ice cream, you’ll want a machine with a larger capacity. On the other hand, if you’re just making ice cream for a few people, a smaller machine will suffice. Keep in mind that larger machines will take up more counter space or room in your freezer.

Batch Size

In addition to the size of the machine, you’ll also want to consider the batch size. Some machines can make multiple batches of ice cream in a row, while others can only make one batch at a time. If you’re making ice cream for a party or gathering, you’ll want a machine that can make multiple batches quickly.

Little boy eating ice cream cone

Power Source

Another factor to consider is the power source of the ice cream maker. There are two main types of ice cream makers: electric and manual.

Electric ice cream makers are powered by electricity and use a motor to churn the ice cream mixture. They are faster than manual ice cream makers and require less effort to use. However, they are typically more expensive than manual ice cream makers.

Manual ice cream makers require manual labor to make ice cream. They typically consist of a churn that is filled with ice cream mixture and then manually turned by hand. These machines are the most affordable and are great for small batches of ice cream. However, they require more effort to use than electric ice cream makers. Fortunately, there have been some clever ways to help you pass the time and churn that ice cream manually should you desire that route.

Four kids eating ice cream.

Price

Of course, price is an important factor to consider when choosing an ice cream maker. Manual ice cream makers are typically the most affordable, while electric and built-in compressor ice cream makers can range in price from moderate to expensive.

Ultimately, the best ice cream maker for kids will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Some of the cheaper ice cream makers may not have all of the features that you are looking for, such as a powerful electric motor, multiple speed settings or a large capacity. On the other hand, some of the more expensive models may come with more advanced features that your child may not need, such as built-in refrigeration or multiple mixing bowls.

When considering price, it’s important to balance your budget with the features and quality you are looking for. You want to make sure you get a good value for your money, without sacrificing quality or safety features.

It may also be helpful to read reviews and compare prices of different models to get a sense of what features are available at different price points.

Little girl eating ice cream cone.

Freezing Method

The freezing method is another important factor to consider when choosing an ice cream maker. Some machines require you to freeze the bowl prior to use, while others have their own built-in freezing system.

Machines that require pre-freezing of the bowl are typically less expensive than this with built-in freezing systems. However, they require more planning ahead, as the bowl needs to be frozen for several hours before use.

Machines with built-in freezing systems are typically more expensive but offer more convenience, as there’s no need to pre-freeze the bowl or add ice and salt. These machines are great for making large batches of ice cream quickly.

Settings and Additional Accessories

Different ice cream makers come with different settings. Some have pre-set programs for different types of ice cream, such as gelato or sorbet. Others have variable speed settings that allow you to control the consistency of the ice cream.

Lastly, consider any additional accessories that come with the ice cream maker. Some machines come with extra attachments for making gelato or sorbet, while others have the ability to make vegan ice cream. Some machines come with an auto-set timer, which can be helpful for keeping track of churning times. And some machines have the ability to make multiple batches, making it easier to make a variety of flavors.

The Best Kids Ice Cream Maker

When it comes to making ice cream with kids, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you want a machine that is easy to use and doesn’t require a lot of effort. Second, you want a machine that is safe for kids to use. And finally, you want a machine that is affordable.

This is an attachment for KitchenAid stand mixers that can make up to 2 quarts of ice cream, gelato, or sorbet. It’s a more affordable option than some of the other models listed here, but it does require a KitchenAid stand mixer to use.

Pros: This takes up way less room than some of the other options. Users generally like its convenience and easy cleanup.

Cons: You will need a KitchenAid mixer to begin with, so it may be an investment if you don’t have a mixer. The attachment itself is made of plastic and some users have reported that it can break easily if you don’t follow the instructions.
Price: $100

6. Nostalgia Vintage Electric Ice Cream Maker

This is a classic-style ice cream maker that can make up to 4 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, or gelato. It uses a canister that needs to be filled with ice and rock salt to freeze the mixture, which some users may find less convenient than self-refrigerating models.

Pros: It has a super fun wooden style to give a throwback to simpler times. With the vintage style, it used modern convenience of electricity to churn the batch in under 20 minutes. Plus,  it has a large capacity.

Cons: It may be considered less convenient due to the need of adding salt and rock to freeze the batch, rather than refrigeration. The overall quality of materials is considered a bit flimsy in some user’s experiences.

8. Ninja CREAMi NC299AMZ Ice Cream Maker

This is a newer model that can make up to 1.5 quarts of ice cream, gelato, or sorbet. It uses a self-refrigerating compressor and has a range of settings for different types of frozen desserts.

Pros: If space is an issue, this is a sleek and compact machine with consistent results. Ninja uses a “Creamerizer System” to finely shave and turn ice particles into ice cream.

Cons: If your heart is intent on making fruit sorbet, you’ll need to blend your fruit before adding to this machine. Users note that they felt it had a difficult time making sorbet.
Price: $199

9. Play and Freeze, Ice Cream Ball

This is a unique ice cream maker that doesn’t require electricity or pre-freezing. It’s essentially a ball that you fill with ice cream ingredients and roll around for about 20 minutes to freeze.

Pros: It’s a fun option for outdoor activities and the perfect choice for those who want to involve kids in the ice cream-making process. The price is hard to beat!

Cons: Users find that it requires a lot of effort and hard work to use and may not produce smooth ice cream.

Price: $78

10. Cuisinart Soft Serve Machine ICE – 48

This is another budget-friendly option from Cuisinart that can make up to 1.5 quarts of soft-serve ice cream. If you love soft-serve this is a great option.

Pros: With 3 condiment containers and a 4 oz. Keep Warm Cup and Heating Plate you can add your favorite mix-ins into your soft serve ice cream as it’s dispensed or pour warm liquid toppings to finish off your frosty treat.

Cons: With a double-insulated freezer bowl, it does require the bowl to be pre-frozen before use. For the price, you can find other machines that are better quality in general.
Price: $149

Luxury Backyard Pools With Slides: Design Ideas

This summer, we have some exciting news! We are actually putting in our own in-ground swimming pool in our backyard.

I can’t wait for construction of my in-ground pool to start in the coming weeks. A local construction company will be putting in a fiberglass pool for us. While this post is focusing on luxury in-ground pools, our pool won’t be considered a custom pool.  Because we are opting to install a fiberglass pool, the dimensions and shape are all standard. The benefit of installing a fiberglass pool is that it tends to be a faster process. Less construction time means we can enjoy the pool faster.

Last year, we were longing for a pool in our backyard. With summers reaching high temperatures here in the Midwest, a pool is sometimes the only way you can tolerate being outside during those hot months. Since we didn’t have a pool last year, I opted to try my hand at a DIY pool. If you are wanting a fun project and one that your family can enjoy all summer long, make sure you check out my DIY pink stock tank pool post! While it may not be an in-ground pool, it certainly is a custom one of a kind pool!

What To Know Before Building Your Luxury Backyard Pool

Before investing in such an expensive and life-changing purchase, you’ll want to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into. These are some key concepts of what you should know before building your luxury backyard pools with slides.

Consider Your Yard Space

Building a luxury backyard pool is a great way to add value to your home and enjoy the summer months. But before you start, there are a few things you should consider. One of the most important factors is your yard space. You need to make sure that it’s large enough for the pool you want and that it can accommodate all of the features you plan on including. Knowing how much space you have available will help you determine what type of pool is best for your needs.

Know Your City’s Ordinances

It’s important to do your research and make sure you know what you’re getting into. Before starting the project, make sure to familiarize yourself with your city’s ordinances, permits, and zoning laws. Knowing these regulations will help ensure that you are in compliance with local laws and don’t end up with any costly fines or unexpected delays.

This backyard pool has a slide that doesn’t take over the whole yard and is built in nicely with the landscaping of the pool.

Type of In-Ground Pool Construction

In-ground pools are typically made of three different materials: concrete, vinyl, and fiberglass. Each material has its own pros and cons. In terms of maintenance, all in-ground pools require regular cleaning, water chemistry testing, and balancing of chemicals. Overall, the type of pool you choose will depend on your budget, the amount of maintenance you are willing to do, and your personal preferences in terms of design and durability.

Concrete Pools

Concrete pools are the most popular choice for in-ground pools. They can be customized to any size or shape, and can be finished with a variety of materials, such as tile or plaster. They are also very durable and can last for many years. However, they can be expensive to install, require more maintenance than other types of pools, and may need resurfacing every 10-15 years.

Vinyl Pools

Vinyl pools consist of a vinyl liner over a frame made of steel or polymer. They are generally less expensive than concrete pools, and the vinyl liner can be replaced if it becomes damaged. However, they are not as durable as concrete pools and may need to be replaced every 10-15 years.

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass pools are made from a preformed shell that is installed into a hole dug in the ground. They are easy to install, require less maintenance than other types of pools, and are very durable. However, they are not as customizable as concrete pools, and may not be suitable for all types of soil.

This backyard pool is another example of a subtle way to include a slide into the landscaping.

Size & Shape Of Pool

The shape and size of your pool will not only impact the type of slide you can install but will also affect the overall aesthetic of your backyard oasis.

Rectangular Pool

Rectangular pools are a classic pool shape and are perfect for those who want a more traditional pool design. They provide plenty of space for swimming laps and relaxing, and can easily accommodate a straight or curved slide.

Freeform Pool

Freeform pools have a more natural and organic shape, which can create a more relaxing and peaceful backyard atmosphere. They are perfect for those who want a more unique and visually interesting pool design. Freeform pools can accommodate a range of slide designs, including custom pool slides.

Small Pool

If you have a smaller backyard, you can still enjoy the benefits of a luxury pool with a slide. Small pools can be designed to fit any backyard space and can be a great option for those who want a more intimate and cozy outdoor oasis. If you can’t quite figure out the best layout for your space, consider hiring a pool designer to help you out.

Cost Of Pool

The cost of a pool can vary greatly depending on several factors, such as the type of pool, size, location, materials, and additional features. Overall, the cost of a pool can range from several thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars or more, depending on various factors. It’s important to consider all of these costs when planning your pool project to ensure that you have a realistic budget and can enjoy your pool for years to come.

Here is a breakdown of some of the costs you may encounter when installing and maintaining a pool:

Installation Costs

The cost of installation will depend on the type of pool you choose, as well as the size and complexity of the installation. In-ground pools tend to be more expensive than above-ground pools, with concrete pools being the most expensive. On average, the cost of installing an in-ground pool can range from $20,000 to $50,000 or more, while an above-ground pool can cost between $1,500 and $15,000.

Insurance Costs

Adding a pool to your property may increase your home insurance rates. You may need to purchase additional liability insurance to protect you in case of accidents or injuries. The cost of insurance will depend on your insurance company and the type of coverage you need.

A rockslide is the perfect addition to your backyard swimming pool.

Maintenance Costs

All types of pools require regular maintenance to keep them clean and safe for swimming. This includes chemical treatments, water testing, cleaning and repairs. On average, pool maintenance can cost between $1,200 and $1,800 per year.

Landscaping & Lighting

Adding landscaping and lighting around your pool can enhance the overall look and feel of your backyard oasis. The cost of landscaping and lighting will depend on the size and complexity of your design, as well as the materials and labor involved. On average, you can expect to pay between $5,000 and $20,000 or more for professional landscaping and lighting.

Safety Features

Safety features such as covers and fences are important for keeping your pool safe and secure. The cost of these features will depend on the type and size of your pool, as well as the materials and labor involved. On average, you can expect to pay between $1,500 and $10,000 or more for pool safety features.

Choose Your  Pool Contractors Wisely

It’s important to do your research before choosing a pool contractor. Make sure to ask around in local groups for recommendations and read as many reviews as possible, both positive and negative. When you find a few options, be sure to ask them any questions you may have before committing. The right pool builder will have years of experience, be able to answer all of your questions, and install a beautiful pool for you.

Water Safety Around Pools

The most important thing to me with our new pool is that we have plenty of safety features to keep our kids and friends safe. The pool we are installing will have a cover that will automatically go on when no one is in the pool. It requires a key to open it.

Water safety is key regardless if you have a pool or not. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 4 years old.

It’s important for pool owners to remember that these safety measures are not foolproof, and you should always supervise children and pets around the pool. Additionally, it’s a good idea to learn CPR and keep a phone nearby in case of emergencies. By taking these precautions, you can help ensure the safety of everyone around your pool.

Swim Classes

One of the best ways to prevent accidents around the pool is to ensure that everyone who uses it knows how to swim. Consider enrolling yourself and your family members in swim classes, especially young children. Infant Swimming Resource, or ISR, is a great resource for finding a local swim instructor.

Fencing With Locked Gate

A fence with a locked gate around your pool is a great way to prevent unauthorized access. Make sure the fence is at least four feet high and has a self-closing, self-latching gate that locks securely.

This modern home has the perfect modern backyard swimming pool and slide.

Gate Alarms

Installing an alarm on the gate of your pool fence is another way to ensure that no one enters the pool area without your knowledge. The alarm will sound if the gate is opened without the proper code or key.

Door & Window Alarms

It’s also important to secure your home’s doors and windows that lead to the pool area. Consider installing alarms on these entrances that will sound if they are opened without your knowledge.

Cover With Key

If you have a pool cover, make sure it is securely fastened and can only be opened with a key. This will prevent anyone from accidentally falling into the pool when the cover is on.

Pool Alarms

Pool alarms can detect when someone enters the water and can sound an alarm to alert you. There are several types of pool alarms available, including surface wave detection, subsurface disturbance, and immersion detectors

4th of July Pool Party Ideas For A Patriotic Fun Day

I’m hoping the pool that is being built in my backyard will be done by the Fourth of July. I am so excited to host people at our house for Independence Day once it is complete. 4th of July pool parties are always the best way to celebrate when you live in a warmer climate.

If you don’t have a pool, but want to have the perfect summer pool party, you can check in with a friend or family member that has a pool. Another option is renting an AirBnB that has a pool, going to a neighborhood pool and having people over afterward, or booking a pool via Swimply, which is a company that allows you to rent out private pools.

To create a patriotic pool party, incorporate red, white, and blue colors into your decorations and food. A great way to add some fun designs is to include American flags, stars, and stripes. You could even make a patriotic theme for your party, encouraging guests to dress in red, white, and blue. The pool water itself can be a great place to add some variety of colors, with red and blue pool toys and floats. I can’t wait to share some of my favorite 4th of July pool party ideas to help you create a patriotic and fun-filled day.

4th Of July Decor

July 4th is a day of celebration in the United States, and it’s the perfect opportunity to decorate your home and outdoor spaces with patriotic decor. Here, we will discuss some creative and fun decor ideas that you can use to make your Fourth of July celebration even more memorable. As always these are some of my own personal favorites, DIYs, and Amazon finds. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to create your own patriotic pool oasis with these 4th of July finds.

DIY:

Pink Stock Tank

If you don’t have a pool and are looking for a fun DIY to help beat the heat this summer, look no further. A stock tank pool is a trendy and affordable way to add a swimming pool to your backyard. You can make it even more festive for the 4th of July by adding some decorations to it. Consider adding some red, white, and blue beach balls or some patriotic pool noodles. You can also add some colorful pool lights to create a festive ambiance for your nighttime pool party.

Easy DIY Outdoor Table

An outdoor table is essential for any 4th of July party, and you can easily make one yourself with just a few materials. Start by purchasing sixteen 2 by 4 boards that are 96 inches in length, outdoor deck screws, outdoor black paint, and outdoor stain. I explain how to build it in the tutorial linked above. You can finish it off with some patriotic decorations to the table, such as American flag centerpieces or red, white, and blue tablecloths.

DIY Ice Cream Cones

Ice cream is a classic summer treat, and you can make it last longer for your 4th of July party by making this DIY project. The ice cream cones can either be scattered on a picnic table or strung on a line to create an adorable festive garland. I love that you can re-use this DIY decor for any summer get together.

DIY Resin Letters

Resin letters are a fun and creative way to add some personalized decor to your 4th of July party. Start by purchasing some epoxy resin and letter molds. To make these festive for the 4th of July, you can use red and blue glitter. Mix some resin according to the instructions on the package, add the glitter, and pour it into the letter molds. When it is dry, it will make adorable place settings for your guests. Or, you can make these to use as diving toys during your pool party.

Trash Can Planter Hack

A trash can may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of 4th of July decor. However, when your guests arrive, their first impression of your party is going to be your porch. So grab some trash cans and get to DIYing. You can turn it into a unique and festive planter that will make a statement.

Start by purchasing a plastic trash can and drilling some draining holes in the bottom if you are using real flowers. If not, you can skip this step. I put some bricks in the bottom to weigh it down and then added packing peanuts so I wouldn’t need to use as much dirt. In this post, I put faux ferns in each planter, but to make it festive for the holiday, I would plant red, white, and blue flowers or you could add American Flags. You can also add some American flag bunting to the top of the trash can to make it even more patriotic.

Painted Mason Jars

Mason jars are a versatile decoration that can be used in many different ways for your 4th of July party. To make them more festive, start by painting them with red, white, and blue paint. You can then use them as vases for flowers, or fill them with battery-operated string lights for a festive night time glow.

Plantars with big green plans in front porch.
DIY Watercolor Striped Bunting

Bunting is a classic decoration for any 4th of July party. You can make your own with just a few materials. If you want to get the same look start by cutting some white watercolor paper into flag shapes. Next, you’ll paint a striped pattern using red and blue watercolor paints. Once the paint has dried, string the flags together with some twine to create a festive bunting that can be hung around your outdoor spaces.

DIY Balloon Garland

A balloon garland can be an eye-catching decoration for your pool party. To create a patriotic garland, you’ll need red, white, and blue balloons. Inflate the balloons to various sizes for a more dynamic look. I tend to tie multiple balloons together to create my garland. Once the balloons are tied, you can twist clusters together to fill out your garland. If you don’t have the time or energy for this process, my favorite local party store, Party Hop Shop, is the best place to go for your balloon needs. If you aren’t local to St. Louis, they have kits with everything you need included.

DIY American Flag & Candy Vases

Candy vases can be a sweet and decorative addition to your 4th of July pool party. You’ll need glass or clear plastic vases, red, white, and blue candy (such as gum balls, jelly beans, or M&M’s), and small American flags or other patriotic decorations. First, fill the vases with layers of red, white, and blue candy, creating a striped pattern. Then, insert small American flags or other patriotic decorations into the candy layers, ensuring they stand upright. Finally, arrange the candy vases on tables around the pool area as centerpieces or on a dessert table.

Pool floats are a must-have for any pool party. Fortunately, there are plenty of patriotic options available to choose from. Look for floats that are red, white, and blue in color or ones that have an American flag design. Having these floats in the pool will add to the overall theme of the party and make for great photo opportunities.

5. Solar Powered Floating Pool Lights

8. Inflatable Patriotic Corn Hole

Inflatable patriotic corn hole is a fun twist on the popular backyard game. These inflatable sets feature red, white, and blue corn hole boards and bags. You’ll have an added challenge with the boards floating on water. Try your best to beat your opponent.

A  waterproof deck of cards is a must-have for a 4th of July gathering. These durable, splash-proof cards are perfect for poolside games or beach trips. I love tossing them in a bag for impromptu games by the water or bringing them out during backyard pool days—they make any outdoor hangout way more fun.

10. Outdoor Jenga

Finally, outdoor Jenga is a fun and challenging game that can be played on the grass or a table. These oversized Jenga sets are perfect for a 4th of July party and can provide hours of entertainment for your guests.

11. Disposable Plates & Silverware

For easy cleanup after your 4th of July party, consider using disposable plates and silverware. You can find plates and silverware that are designed with patriotic colors and designs. I like to use disposable plates and silverware that I can have on hand and can use for other parties. These dark blue plates are modern and festive, but not so much that they scream “4th of July party”. If you have extras you can always reuse for any summer BBQ.

12. Uno Splash Card Game

Uno Splash card game is a waterproof version of the classic card game. In other words, this game is perfect for playing in or nearby a pool. The cards are designed to float on water and resist fading in the sun.

13. Patriotic Runner

15. Striped Napkins

These napkins are the perfect addition to your 4th tablescape. The stripes are so fun and just add a little patriotic flair to your party!

16. 4th Of July Straws

Don’t forget about 4th of July straws! These straws are a fun way to add some patriotic flair to your drinks. You can find straws that are made with red, white, and blue strips or that feature patriotic designs.

17. Plastic Juice Bottles With Straws & Lids

Shower Pan vs. Tile Floor: Which One Is Right For You?

When it comes to choosing between a shower pan or tile shower floors, there are pros and cons to both options. The shower floor is a decision that may be based on price, the aesthetic you are going for throughout your bathroom, or both.  While a shower pan is easier to install than tile flooring, it is less expensive, but it can be difficult to customize. Tile flooring is more customizable than a shower pan. However, it is more expensive and requires more time and effort in installation, as well as regular maintenance. So whatever your budget or dream design, we will explore the differences between a shower pan vs. tile floor, so that you can make an informed decision when deciding which option is best for your bathroom.

Shower Pan vs. Tile Floor: Which One Is Right For You?

When it comes to choosing between a shower pan vs. tile floor, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The shape, design, style, and size of your shower will determine which option is best for you.

Shower pans are preformed plastic or fiberglass structures that can be installed in the shower area. They come in various shapes and sizes and can be customized to fit the exact dimensions of your shower space. On the other hand, tile floors are made up of individual tiles laid in a pattern on the floor of the shower area.

Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages that should be considered when making a decision about which type of flooring to use for your shower area. By considering factors such as shape, design, style, size, cost, installation time, maintenance requirements and durability you can make an informed decision about which option is best for you.

What Is A Shower Pan?

Shower pans are an essential component of any bathroom and can be found in a variety of styles, shapes, and sizes. A shower pan is a waterproof membrane used over the floor of your shower. They provide a waterproof base for your shower, helping to protect the floor from water damage.

Shower pans are made out of a variety of materials such as acrylic, fiberglass, plastic, natural stone and cast iron and can be installed over an existing wood or concrete floor. In addition, they come in a range of colors to match any bathroom decor.

Furthermore, they come in several shapes and standard or custom sizes to fit all types of showers. While they can be cheaper to install than tile, the price is dependent on the thickness, material,  and size of the pan.  With this in mind, it’s important to consider the pros and cons before choosing the right shower pan for your needs.

Shower Pan Materials

Your shower pan is the foundation of your shower and should be carefully chosen to meet your needs. With a wide range of materials available to choose from you’ll want to carefully weigh the pros and cons of each. Let’s look at a few different options available to determine advantages and disadvantages of each material:

  1. Acrylic: Acrylic shower pans tend to be reinforced with other materials. They are made of large sheets of acrylic that have been heated and stretched to fit a mold. They are durable and easier to maintain than tile or natural stone.
  2. Fiberglass: Fiberglass shower pans are made with polyester resin mixed with woven glass fibers that are then poured into a mold. They are known as a cheap type of shower pan and tend to be more likely to damage or show stains.
  3. Composite: Composite shower pans are engineered and made of two or more different materials. This makes them more durable than the two or more materials would be alone.
  4. Porcelain: Porcelain shower pans are a sturdy mixture of natural clay, water, and other organic materials. It is hardened with heat and very durable.
  5. Cast Iron: Cast iron shower pans are a sturdy and stable pan material. It is incredibly heavy, but once installed, involves an easy cleaning process. It may be slippery when wet, so it is important to add anti-slip stickers as an added precaution.
  6. Stainless: Stainless shower pans are one of the most durable options on the market. It only comes in one color, but it is stain and rust proof, making it easy to clean and maintain. The drawback is they only come in one color, but stainless tends to look sleek.

Pros & Cons Of A Shower Pan

Pros:

  • Wide range of price points ranging from $150 to over $1,000 to fit any budget.
  • More affordable option in comparison to custom shower tiles
  • Different colors and shapes available
  • Different sizes available
  • Variety of materials

Cons:

  • May become warped or cracked due to heat and humidity
  • Improperly installed shower pans can lead to leaks, which can be costly to fix
  • Improperly installed shower pans can feel like you are bouncing while using the shower
  • Not as unique as tile flooring

Tile Floor: A Luxurious Option

Tile flooring in the shower is a popular choice for many homeowners. It adds a unique look and feel to the space, while also providing durability. It consists of a grout-less mortar, which is porous and able to hold water. It is a good choice if you are looking for high quality materials with a custom look.

Typically, tile floors are made of ceramic or porcelain tile.  However, it can include stone, like granite tiles or marble tiles, and glass as well. With an array of colors, shapes, and sizes to choose from, you can create a custom look for a truly memorable bathroom.

While tile flooring is more durable than shower pans, installation can be much more difficult and require more maintenance. As a result, tile flooring is more expensive. You’ll need to have a skilled hand or hire a professional to lay your tile flooring.  In the end, both the materials and the labor costs of tile floors will be more than a shower pan alone.

Considerations With Tile Flooring

Renovating a bathroom can be a daunting task, but one of the most important elements to consider is the shower tile floor. From selecting the right type of tiles that will last for years to installing them properly, there are many factors to consider when choosing a new shower tile floor.

Types Of Tiles

Whether you’re looking for an elegant walk-in shower or just want to spruce up your existing bathroom, there are several options available when it comes to tiled shower floors. From traditional ceramic tiles and natural stone tiles to custom tile showers, there is something for every budget and style.

With a few simple steps, you can transform your bathroom into a stylish oasis with a beautiful tiled shower floor. When it comes to shower tile flooring, there are many options available. From marble and glass tiles to penny or larger tiles, the choices are endless.

Glass tile can be used to create a unique design while grout lines can provide texture and depth. Additionally, glass doors can be used to add elegance and sophistication to the shower wall. With so many options available, it is important to choose the best tiles for your shower floor that will not only look great but also last for years to come.

From classic square tiles to intricate mosaic designs, there is a wide range of shapes available to suit any style. Whether you are looking for a modern or traditional look, the right combination of shapes can create a unique and eye-catching design. With careful consideration, you can find the perfect shape for your shower tile floor that will bring beauty and functionality to your bathroom.

However, simply having a trampoline in your backyard is not enough to maximize its potential. With a few creative ideas, you can turn your trampoline into a hub of activity and excitement. Trampoline Backyard Ideas For Tons Of Outdoor Fun

With summer right around the corner, it’s a good time to start preparing my backyard space for the upcoming warm weather. We are going to be installing an in-ground pool in our yard this year and I could not be more excited. If that isn’t in the cards for you, don’t worry! There are plenty of other ways to have fun in the sun this year.

If you have kids and want to encourage them to play outside, I have a whole post dedicated to outdoor toys to keep kids playing! I love being able to watch their creativity and imagination come alive outside.

Even without outdoor toys, I always try to encourage my kids to be active. One of their favorite ways to burn off energy is by jumping on our friend’s trampoline. While we don’t have a trampoline in our own yard, we are lucky to have lots of friends that let us join in on the jumps.

My friend Val, of Lovely Lucky Life, has an in-ground trampoline and her kids absolutely love it. It’s a great way to keep them entertained while providing them with some physical activity. I’m looking forward to getting my pool this summer for the same reasons and spending a lot of time in it with my own kids.

All About Trampolines

Trampolines have been around for a long time, but they have only recently become a popular backyard accessory. They were originally used by circus performers and gymnasts to practice their skills, but today they are enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels.

Trampolines come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the most common type is the round trampoline. Round trampolines are typically the most affordable and are great for beginners. They are also the safest type of trampoline because of their design. The springs are evenly distributed around the perimeter of the trampoline, which helps prevent users from bouncing off the sides.

Backyard trampoline ideas include this entire playset, log tunnel, and trampoline that is complete for the ultimate kid backyard.
This backyard trampoline is a great set up for kids of all ages.

Rectangular trampolines are another popular option. They are typically more expensive than round trampolines, but they provide a better bounce and are better suited for advanced users. They are also popular among athletes, as they can be used for training and practicing skills.

In addition to the shape, trampolines also come in a variety of sizes. The most common sizes are 8 ft, 10 ft, 12 ft, and 14 ft trampolines. The size you choose will depend on the size of your backyard and the number of people who will be using the trampoline because the jumping surfaces each have a weight limit.

What a beautiful backyard trampoline.

What Should You Know Before Buying?

Installing a new trampoline in your backyard will provide hours of entertainment and great exercise throughout the summer months. Before you get started, you’ll want to keep a few key considerations in mind.

#1 Spacing Is Key

Make sure to properly prepare the space for your trampoline by clearing away any debris and making sure that there is extra space and no obstacles near the area where you plan to place it.

Trampolines can take up a lot of room, so you’ll want to measure your yard and make sure you have enough space for the size of trampoline you want. Then you’ll want to find the ideal place to set it in your large or small yard. Even if you have a small yard, you’ll still find plenty of backyard trampoline ideas to maximize the space you have.

#2 Know Safety Features

Another important consideration is safety features. Trampolines can be dangerous if they are not used properly, so it’s important to take the proper safety precautions. You should always supervise children when they are using the trampoline, and make sure they are using it safely.

You should also invest in a safety enclosure net and padding to help prevent injuries. Additionally, establish some ground rules for trampoline use, such as only allowing one person on the trampoline at a time, no somersaults, and no jumping off the trampoline onto other surfaces. With these safety measures in place, you can feel confident that your trampoline is a safe and enjoyable addition to your backyard.

#3 Understand Warranties

The most important thing you should know about backyard trampolines before you buy one is that they don’t come with any sort of warranty on them. This means that the manufacturer doesn’t cover any accidents or injuries that could happen from using the product. You must be careful when buying and using your new backyard trampoline to ensure maximum safety.

When it comes to buying a trampoline, you should consider investing in the best quality trampoline. Cheaper trampolines may seem like a good deal, but they are often made with lower quality materials and may not last as long. You should look for a trampoline that is made with high-quality materials and has a sturdy frame.

Incorporating Your Trampoline Into Your Backyard Space

Once you’ve purchased your trampoline, it’s time to start thinking about how you can beautify it. While trampolines are fun on their own, they can also be a great way to add some personality to your large or small backyard. I’ll go over some of my favorite backyard trampoline ideas to incorporate your trampoline into your backyard seamlessly.

#1 Add a Cover

One popular way to beautify your trampoline is to add a cover. Trampoline covers come in a variety of colors and patterns, and can be a great way to add some personality to your trampoline. They can also help to protect your trampoline from the elements and prolong its lifespan.

#2 Light It Up

Another fun way to beautify your above-ground trampoline is to add some lights. String lights or fairy lights can be wrapped around the perimeter of the trampoline to create a magical atmosphere. This is especially fun for nighttime use, as it adds an extra layer of excitement to bouncing.

Backyard trampoline ideas includes a full gaming. court, putting green, pool, and trampoline for the ultimate backyard.

#3 Custom Creations

If you want to take things to the next level, you can even add a custom paint job to your trampoline. You can paint the metal frame, springs, and padding in bright colors or even create a custom design. This is a great way to make your trampoline stand out and add some personality to your backyard.

#4 Accessorize

Another fun way to beautify your trampoline is to add some accessories. There are a variety of accessories available on the market, from basketball hoops to water sprays. These accessories can add a new dimension to your trampoline and provide even more fun for your entire family and friends. You’ll want to check out my round up below for some of my favorite trampoline accessories for hours of fun.

#5 Safety First

One of the most important things when it comes to beautifying your trampoline is to make sure it is safe. Any modifications you make should not compromise the safety of the trampoline. You should also make sure that any accessories you add are designed specifically for trampolines and are installed correctly.

What a serene backyard filled with a trampoline, pool, and swing.
If this backyard swing, trampoline, and pool doesn’t make you jealous, I don’t know what else will!

#6 General Rules

Some other creative ideas to make your traditional trampoline look nice in your backyard are to avoid grass. Use organic materials like wood chips or sand, rubber mats or mulch because they make for a soft landing rather than hard ground. Above all else, you want your trampoline to be a safe place for fun memories.

#7 Include It In Your Landscape

You can also hide it strategically if your yard allows – think trampoline landscaping ideas. For example, shrubs and bushes can be placed around it and a thick layer of mulch can make a secret path to get to it. This would be more ideal for older kids for safety reasons unless you are always around to supervise small children.
Another option is a unique in-ground trampoline system if the budget allows and you are prepared to commit to an option that is more permanent. An artificial turf would be a beautiful landscaping option to conceal a sunken trampoline because the trampoline is at ground level. Besides being more aesthetically pleasing than your average trampoline, an in-ground trampoline is safer for everyone as well so you can have more peace of mind sending your kids outside to play.

Finally, a designated play space would be a great place to include a trampoline. With a swing set and sandbox, this fun place would become a mini park!

I love how the backyard trampoline is surrounded by beautiful landscaping.

Best Ways To Include Play Utilizing Your New Trampoline

Trampolines provide endless amounts of fun for the whole family. Whether you want to bounce around, play a game of “popcorn”, or use it as a pirate ship, your imagination can run wild. Some of my favorite memories as a child were spent playing with other neighbor kids. My backyard trampoline ideas are inspired by my childhood and some of my favorite ways to play:

#1 Trampoline Waterpark

One great trampoline backyard idea is to turn your trampoline into a makeshift water park. You can do this by placing a sprinkler underneath the trampoline or attaching a hose to a sprinkler and holding it over the trampoline. This will create a fun and refreshing way to beat the summer heat while still enjoying the thrill of bouncing on a trampoline.

#2 Obstacle Course

Another fun idea is to create a trampoline obstacle course. This can include different challenges such as jumping over obstacles, doing specific jumps in a certain order, and even crawling under the trampoline. This will not only provide a fun and challenging activity for children, but it can also help improve their coordination and balance.

My kids love to watch The Floor is Lava. I can only imagine the types of obstacle courses they would set up utilizing a trampoline!

Backyard trampoline ideas include a playhouse with inground trampoline.
This trampoline and playground completes this outdoor space.

#3 Trampoline Games

If you have a group of friends over, you can turn your trampoline into a fun game of bounce tag. The rules are simple: one person is “it,” and they have to tag the other players by touching them while they are bouncing on the trampoline. Once a player is tagged, they become “it” and continue the game. This game can provide hours of entertainment for children and adults alike.

We also love playing popcorn. I’m going to warn you by saying it may not be the safest game. So please keep in mind, you’ll want to encourage safe play.  With that being said, you have a person who sits criss-cross applesauce with their hands on their feet. Each player takes a turn to bounce the popcorn player. If the popcorn player can’t hold their position, the player who “popped” them wins.

Backyard trampoline ideas include this hanging trampoline with pillows.

#4 Stargazing Nights

You can also use your trampoline for stargazing. On clear nights, lay a blanket on the trampoline and lie down to watch the sky. This is not only a relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors, but it can also be a great educational opportunity to teach children about constellations and the night sky. If you want to take it up a notch, you could always use it as an opportunity to have your backyard trampoline ideas to include a night of camping and stargazing.

#5 Build a Fort

If you have an above ground trampoline with a safety net, you can always make your own fort. Take some old sheets and place them over the net. You can cover the whole trampoline or leave it partially open. This would be great for any young kids who may want to play capture the flag and use their trampoline as home base.

With four kids at home it is safe to say our house is absolute chaos! It is difficult to find a moment alone in the house or silence around these parts. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want it any other way! I am looking forward to creating summer memories filled with lots of laughter with my crew.

Life Updates For May

With school out of session, our life is filled with lots of summer activities. We slow down in summer and try to create core summer memories. That means pool parties, dinner out around town, late night S’mores, and walks to our local ice cream shop. I love creating these special moments with my kids and I hope they remember how much fun we have during these warmer months.

Projects

It seems like we are always in the midst of a project. I don’t think there will ever be a time where there isn’t something going on in our home- DIY project or otherwise.

Bathroom Renovations

I know some of you may be wondering about all the updates on our bathroom renovations. We have come so far and out of the 3 bathrooms being renovated almost all are complete! I still need to blog the process and fill in some more details, but in the meantime, my kids are enjoying their own bathroom spaces. The girls have LOVED having a girly bathroom complete with pink soap.

Ave’s Room Update

Avé’s room is coming along nicely. We have been in the process of tweaking her room to a space that she can truly grow into and loves. She fell in love with a bunk bed from Pottery Barn and fortunately, we were able to find it at our local Pottery Barn Outlet. Once the bed came into the picture, the whole vision for her room changed and I knew we needed to do some updates.

One of those updates included created a window seat for her to lounge on, but also to add more storage to her room. Sam has been working hard on the window seat. Adding this is no small task since our home was built in the late 1800s. Walls are never straight and you never know what you’ll find when you end up opening walls up. Needless to say, Sam has been a trooper and Avé has been very patient. I am anxiously awaiting for this room to be complete, so I can start on Goldie’s room!

Pool Construction

The next major home project will be a pool! That’s right, I’m trading my pink stock tank pool for an in-ground pool this summer! We still haven’t broken ground yet, but I’ve been reassured that the process shouldn’t take terribly long. We expect to start in the next few weeks and have the pool ready to go by the end of summer. I’m hopeful that the entire project won’t take too long and we will be swimming in our own pool before August.

Family Updates

Life always seems to move so fast these days. It is inevitable that I blink and an entire school year has come and gone. This year, our kids finished their 4th, 2nd, and Pre-K school years. I am so proud of what they have accomplished and grateful to all our teachers and school staff to make a successful year. Next year, I’ll have all four under one roof with Goldie starting Pre-K. It is hard to believe that all my babies are old enough to be in school together.

I know that once my kids are away at school I will long for these summer days of hearing the constant chaos. For now, I’ll be cherishing these memories we make and looking forward to some semblance of normalcy come Fall- and solitude!

In the meantime, we have a lot of fun planned for the summer. Our summer started with dance recitals for both Avé and Goldie. They performed their dances and did fantastic! The boys were great sports cheering on their sisters from the audience and taking pictures afterwards.

Dancing girls

Now that dance is over, we are busy with sports! Both Jack and Walker are playing baseball this season. Walker has loved playing catcher and Jack is doing great at trying out different field positions.

If that wasn’t enough, they also wanted to play Lacrosse! Sam played Lacrosse when he was younger so this has been extra special to watch my boys bond with their dad over a sport they all love. To be honest, I didn’t grow up with Lacrosse, so this is a learning curve for me!

When we aren’t going back and forth between sports events we are spending lots of quality time at our pool. No, not our backyard pool, but the pool we belong to in our neighborhood. During the summer in the Midwest there really isn’t any other option but to keep cool in some type of water. Since we don’t have any beaches nearby, we stick to the pool.

Speaking of beaches, we are headed to Florida for a family vacation next week! We are looking forward to spending time together enjoying the beach, pool, and eating lots of seafood! Sam and I were married and lived in Destin, Florida for the first part of our marriage. It is always special for us when we get to go back to the general area where we used to live. We love Floridian life and love sharing that part of our story with our kids too.

10 Toddler Girl Bedroom Ideas On A Budget To Love

With all the renovations happening at our house, I’m embarrassed to say that Goldie has taken the back seat. Her room still needs some TLC and I’ve got it on my list to update before she turns four! While she’s growing up way too fast and will soon be a big kid, I have plenty of experience working on toddler rooms between my four kids’ bedrooms.

Over the years, some of my favorite rooms were ones that housed my toddlers. You may remember  Ave’s room when I updated it from a nursery to her toddler bedroom using Spoonflower wallpaper. If that wasn’t darling enough, I then went ahead and switched out her wallpaper as her style changed and in doing so, created one of my favorite toddler girl bedroom DIYs. Her daisy toddler bedroom tops the list of favorite rooms and I was so sad to see that room go once we moved.

Switching out textiles is the perfect way to change up decor in a toddler girls bedroom on a budget

Of course, not to be outdone, is Goldie’s nursery turned toddler bedroom. Goldie had a darling room that was filled with subtle sweet touches. I was very intentional in designing her room to grow with her as she reached toddlerhood. She is our drop of Golden sun and her nursery reflects her personality and style. Once we moved, we kept that similar theme, but it is by no means where I want her room to be.

So if you are also looking for inspiration on toddler girl bedroom ideas on a budget, I hope some of my past rooms and DIYs can help.! Hopefully, I too can find some new inspiration for Goldie’s new big girl room (coming soon).

Considerations To Take In Mind For Your Toddler Girl Bedroom

Toddlers can be finicky. They are hot and they’re cold. They’re yes and they’re no. I’ll spare you from completing the song lyrics, but you get my drift. Overall, when I design a child’s room, whether it is a baby’s nursery, toddler bedroom, or pre-teen room, I keep a few key considerations in mind.

Toddler girl bedroom ideas on a budget can include reusing furniture and switching out hardware as seen in this white nightstand with stone hardware.

Children’s Tastes Change Quickly

Designing a toddler girl bedroom on a budget can be a fun and challenging task. With a little creativity and some DIY inspiration, you can create a magical space that your little princess will love and grow with your child into her teenage years. When designing your daughter’s room, it’s important to keep in mind that young children’s tastes change quickly, so it’s important to design a room that can be easily updated with the latest trends.

You may not necessarily have the budget to buy all new furniture, paint, wallpaper, and decor every time you decide to upgrade your child’s room.  Being intentional in what you do buy will help you determine what you can and can’t upgrade. It may be more beneficial to buy used furniture or IKEA pieces that you can customize for your own style. Or, you may opt to splurge on furniture and have your little girl grow into her style.

Easily Swap Decor & Textiles To Change Up A Room

One easy way to update a space is by swapping out textiles and decor. You can get an entirely different style by switching out your rugs, curtains, pillows, and bedding.

A vibrant and colorful area rug can be a perfect solution for adding a pop of color and comfort to the room. Different patterns and textures can also add interest to the rest of the room. You can find affordable throw pillows and wall art at craft stores, flea markets, and discount stores like Hobby Lobby and the dollar store.

Accent Walls Are A Blank Canvas

Consider using an accent wall to add character to the room. One way to create a feature wall in your daughter’s room is to paint one wall a bright color. In terms of paint colors, bright colors like pink, purple, and yellow can be a fantastic way to add a fun and playful feel to the room. You can also use pastel colors to create a more calming and peaceful atmosphere. Chalkboard paint is another option to create a fun and interactive space. This allows her to express her creativity and can be easily updated as her tastes change.

Color will certainly stand out, but I generally prefer more subtle white walls as they provide a blank canvas for other elements in the room to shine. I tend to pair my muted paint colors with more bold features like wallpaper or wall decals. This in turn creates a focal point in the room.

Another fun thing I do is utilize bookshelves as accent walls. This is dual purpose. First, you have a great feature wall that looks amazing. Second, you have storage for all those books you’ll end up reading.

Decorative clear acrylic bookshelves are a great way to add decor in a toddler girl bedroom on a budget.

Don’t Forget Play Areas

It’s important to create a play area in your child’s room, where she can engage in her favorite activities. This can be as simple as adding a small table and chairs or a tent for imaginative play. A chest of drawers can provide much-needed storage space in a small room. You can also create a reading nook by placing a comfortable chair or bean bag in a corner of the room.

Storage Is Always Key

Finally, don’t forget to incorporate storage ideas throughout the room. This can be as simple as using baskets or bins to store toys and books or installing shelves to display your child’s favorite items.

You’ll want to be sure that you have designated areas where your little one can practice their independence and help pick up their belongings. Using storage not only keeps the room looking tidy, but also helps your growing toddler learn responsibility.

Easy Ways To Stick To A Budget

When it comes to toddler girl room ideas on a budget, a bedroom makeover doesn’t have to break the bank. One of the best ways to stick to a budget is to buy items on sale, DIY, or repurpose items you already have.

Keep an eye out for sales and discounts on furniture and decor items. I love looking at my local antique stores for decor. Not only can you get some really interesting pieces, you can also find items that you may be able to repurpose.

If you are more creative, you can always  try your hand at DIY projects to create unique and personalized items for your toddler’s bedroom. Repurposing items you already have, such as old furniture or decor, can also save you money while giving your toddler’s bedroom a fresh new look. I love using IKEA furniture to customize exactly what I want. The furniture prices are reasonable and with a little extra work, you can create a custom looking piece.

Pottery Barn Kids is a great resource for interior design inspiration, but it can be expensive. Instead, try finding similar items at more affordable prices at discount stores or online retailers. When updating the room, consider repurposing old items or finding new uses for them. For example, an old dresser can easily be updated with a fresh coat of paint and new hardware. With a little bit of creativity and some budget-friendly ideas, you can create the perfect room design for your toddler girl that will grow with her into her teenage years.

Favorite Toddler Girl Bedroom Ideas On A Budget

Little girls’ bedrooms can be transformed with some simple and inexpensive decor ideas that will create a space that feels special and personalized. If you’re looking for inspiration for your baby girl’s or toddler girl’s bedroom, here are some of my favorite toddler girl bedroom ideas on a budget:

1. Use Bookshelves To Make A Statement

Bookshelves are not just for storing books. They can also make a great impact statement on a wall. You can use bookshelves to display your toddler’s favorite toys, stuffed animals, and other decorative items. Personally, I love a clear acrylic bookshelf that is loaded with colorful books. This creates a focal point and adds additional storage. I’ve utilized this trick over the years and you can check out all the different creative ways to display children’s books.

You can easily change out the books and decor with each season. Just make sure you place the shelves low enough for your little girl to reach!

2. Decorate With Wall Decals

Wall decals are a great idea to add color and personality to your toddler’s bedroom without spending a lot of money. They are easy to apply and remove, and they come in a variety of designs and sizes.

You can change out the wall stickers as your toddler grows and her interests change. I love the idea of using one blank wall as a canvas for wall decals or peel and stick wallpaper. You can use the peel and stick decals as your theme and easily switch them out and other textiles out for a cost-efficient and easy upgrade.

If you have a Cricut, you can make your own. Otherwise, you can find lots of great options on Etsy and Amazon.

3. Frame Your Own Artwork

Your toddler is bound to create a lot of artwork, so why not display it in her bedroom? You can frame your toddler’s artwork to create a gallery wall. This not only adds a personal touch to the room, but it also saves you money on buying expensive artwork.

Wall decor can be costly. So I love utilizing what I have on hand to make custom looking art. If you want something that is more upscale than your own toddler’s drawings, consider framing a small piece of wallpaper. This is a great and inexpensive option. If you can’t find something that’s your style, you can always browse Etsy for printable art.

Use these art frames to frame your own child's artwork to save money for your toddler girl bedroom on a budget.

4. DIY Wall Statement

If you’re feeling creative, you can make your own wall statement. You can create a mural, paint a design, or use stencils to create a pattern on the wall. This is a great way to add personality to your toddler’s bedroom without spending a lot of money.

For Goldie’s room, I created a DIY large wall rainbow from pool noodles and yarn. To create this look, I took one noodle and wrapped yarn the whole way down. I repeated this with different colors on five noodles. It was equal parts easy and tedious. After the noodles were wrapped, I took a thicker white yarn to add a decorative touch to the ends of the rainbow arches. When finished, it looks like a neutral macrame rainbow. I loved that I could pick the color scheme and it would match her room for years to come, while being a very inexpensive statement piece.

In Avé’s room, I created a matching DIY flower wall that paired perfectly with her daisy wallpaper. This project required very little in terms of supplies and only cost around $30 total. It looked like something you would find in Pottery Barn but I was able to create it for way less!

If bright rainbows and colorful daisies aren’t your thing, you can always customize these DIYs using colors that are more muted or your style. The last DIY I created for Goldie’s room is a wall hanging sunshine that would be perfect for a boho room!

Make your own statement wall like this DIY Daisy Wall made from yarn and pom poms for a toddler girl bedroom on a budget.

5. Upcycle Your Furniture

It is no secret that I love a good IKEA hack! IKEA furniture is affordable and functional, but it can also be a bit plain. You can up-cycle an IKEA dresser by adding new hardware, painting it a fun color, or adding decals or wallpaper. This is a great way to add personality to your toddler’s bedroom without spending a lot of money on new furniture.

In Avé’s room, I took an IKEA Bjorksnas dresser and elevated it with resin molds, paint, and new knobs. It wasn’t very difficult and it definitely created a huge impact.

Goldie’s IKEA dresser was upgraded using paint, new hardware, and dresser “feet” to create a modern look.

Use IKEA furniture and resin molds to get this same custom look of a white dresser with floral resin details for your toddler girl bedroom on a budget.

6. DIY Light Fixtures

A unique light fixture can add a lot of personality to your toddler’s bedroom. You can make your own light fixture using materials such as paper lanterns, string lights, or even a pendant light kit.

This is a great way to add a personal touch to the room while staying within your budget. I made a DIY light fixture in my daughter Avé’s room with a pendant light kit. It was done in four simple steps and one afternoon. I would highly recommend it. Light fixtures can be pricey, but this one is unique and budget-friendly.

7. Use Multipurpose Items

When decorating your toddler’s bedroom on a budget, it’s important to think about items that can serve multiple purposes. For example, you can use a storage ottoman as a seat and storage for toys or books. You can also use decorative baskets or bins to store toys or clothing. This not only saves you money but also helps keep the room organized and clutter-free.

Here’s a nightstand with storage that I love. We have one in Jack’s room. This storage pouf is also in his room. It can be used to hold stuffed animals, extra blankets, or other odds and ends to keep the room looking tidy.

If pink is more your color, here’s the perfect storage ottoman for you. We also love the wicker baskets that hang in our mudroom. They look cute alone but also store items we may need to grab and go. They would work well in a boho style room as both decor and storage.

This wicker basket of toys as storage is perfect for dual purpose of decor and organization in this toddler girl bedroom on a budget

8. Create Storage & Seating With IKEA Hack

IKEA hacks are a popular way to customize IKEA furniture to fit your specific needs and style. You can use an IKEA Kallax shelf unit to create both storage and seating in your toddler’s bedroom. Simply add a cushion to the top of the shelf unit and use the cubbies to store toys or books.
Another great IKEA hack is using the Nordli line to create a window seat with storage, like Kelin from Hydrangea Tree House did here.

9. Create Custom Looking Built Ins With IKEA Hack

I love the look of custom built in cabinets. Whether you have built ins in your living room or bedroom, the style is timeless and is functional for storage purposes. If you want to create a built-in look in your toddler’s bedroom without spending a lot of money, consider my IKEA Billy bookcase hack

You can line the bookcases up against the wall and add trim and molding to create a built-in look. This is a great way to add both storage and style to the room without breaking the bank and it’s exactly what I did in my home office in my previous house. This would work perfectly for a toddler’s room that may also serve as a playroom too.
